I'm just going through my DVD Collection alphabetically and writing essays on each and everyone of them...

If you're interested it can all be found here

About how many DVDs do you have?

Sounds like a great project.

350 or so, it took me like three days just to alphabetise the things when I moved house.

Best of luck with this one. I tried something similar with my "top 100" list a few years ago and couldn't get past a sentence for some of the films, I can't imagine doing entire essays.

Going from memory and the "compare your DVD collection"(or whatever the name was) thread a couple years back, he has a bunch. I only remember because he had a pretty damn good collection.

More than anything else it's a way for me to write something each and every day, whilst I try and get the energy to continue with the book I'm working on.

Dick: I guess it looks as if you're reorganizing your records. What is this though? Chronological?
Rob: No...
Dick: Not alphabetical...
Rob: Nope...
Dick: What?
Rob: Autobiographical.
Dick: No fucking way.

I've always thought about doing something like this, but then I realized that no one would ever be interested in reading it. No offense, of course.

No offence taken, blogs invariably are the most boring thing around. Hell if people read that's fantastic, but it is more about maintaining my writing.

Thanks for the views guys, and thanks to Anderson for the link from his site. I reciprocated, but I doubt it had much effect overall. I can't believe I've managed to get Seven films into my collection!

So I've managed to get 700 views in total (which is pretty meagre). Just wanna say thanks for actually paying attention to what I write and helping me power through my collection.

So you know, I view it every couple films, so while I don't count as a hit for every one, I read em all.

Do you think you could put a list of all the past reviews at the top of the page? If you get through your entire collection it seems like it would be better to start the list sooner rather than later so you can add films one at a time as opposed to all 300ish at once.

Due to Diva I can't edit my original post, so instead every dozen or so reviews I'll do a collection of links in this thread.

Like so.

9 Souls

The 13th Warrior

21 Grams

36

36 Deadly Styles

2001

2009: Lost Memories

Adaptation

The Agitator

Aguirre, The Wrath of God

Akira

Alien

Aliens

Alien 3

Alien Resurrection

All About Lily Chou-Chou

Gig Review: Final Fantasy

I'm dying to know the fabled story behind Diva destroying our options to edit posts. How did I miss that one?

I think she attempted to go back and erase all of her old posts, to make her seem less idiotic, and got caught out.

The fun starts at post #50.

Oh, I didn't mean here, I just meant on your blog, but this works just as well.

So I'm starting to fill in the gaps of the essays that I hadn't read yet and I am really enjoying them. Keep up the good work. Do you think you'll get through your entire collection? I don't think I would have the willpower/commitment to follow through.
I would never be able to follow through on something like this because I would never feel any real obligation to do so. I mean, I certainly could do it, and it would not be too much trouble, as it's a variation on what I do every day anyway, but I would give up when I realized that I would rather spend that writing time watching more movies or playing video games or drinking.

All that said, hats off to you for having the willpower to follow through.

Great Site! I had a look at a couple of the reviews and I liked your style.

One things for sure, I feel very lazy now having just thrown all my dvds on the shelves in any old order, when i moved house recently. Think its time to get off my arse and sort them out.
