Goin to NYC for a few days

Here in about two weeks I'm taking my first trip to the Big Apple to go to the Urbanworld Film Fest. A short film I was director of photography on last year called Cup of Joe got accepted into the fest (out of competition, but still, a screening's a screening), and the director asked me to come with him & our lead actor to NYC to talk up the film & get people to come. I'm flying in Thursday evening and leaving Sunday afternoon, and there's two screenings scheduled--one early Friday morning at 10am and the second one Saturday at the slightly better 1:45pm. Outside of that, though I'm not sure how many of the sights and sounds I'm gonna have time to take in (other than getting my ass over to Hook & Ladder Station 8, conviently 4 miles from the theatre), if any NYC-area Chewers want to meet face to face, come to the screening or just get a beer, drop me a PM.

Also, if you've got any non-touristy destination suggestions for me to check out, post it here. Out of lack of time and lack of a lot of funds, I'm probably going to be confined to Manhattan Island, but good (and affordable!) resturant suggestions and the like are welcome.

Be sure to mill about like a slack-jawed idiot around the Freedom Hole, or whatever it is they're calling it now.

Gray's Papaya (there are three of 'em, i used to go to the one on 6th Ave and 8th St, right by NYU, but the location on 72nd and Broadway is the one that can be seen in Die Hard 3)

Hook & Ladder Station 8 has a Ghostbusters mural, but otherwise there's nothing much special about it.

There's good suggestions for things to do in these threads-

Where's the Urbanworld Fest holding screenings?

You're just going to miss my Creature Corner screening, which is at Hell Gate Social (a great bar) on Sunday the 24th. Damn.

I'm not sure if Urbanworld is screening in multiple locations, but Cup of Joe is screening at the AMC Lowes Theatre on 34th Street.

Well, my plans have altered slightly, and I'm not leaving till Monday. When/where's your Creature Corner screening, Alex?

Unless he changed it...

Yeah, I got that. Doesn't exactly point out when it is, or where this Hell's Gate Social bar is. Unless Colin Chou is around to help me find it, I need a street name.

Hey, if Google's not good enough for Devin, why should it be good enough for me?

Yeah, it's in Queens. Not sure if you'd be taking the train, but you do just take the N uptown to Astoria Blvd. and walk a few blocks down.

The "ominous looking fascade" is what's on their website, except there's no name of the bar on it. Lot of people get confused and aren't sure if this is the place... it is.

I still haven't announced the movies I'll be playing (trying to get in contact with directors and such) but I'm going to be doing a night of horror shorts.

I'm also going to see if I can make it out to your screening on Saturday... I tried checking out the Urbanworld page to see what's going on then but it doesn't have the films listed yet.

Yeah, they're bein pretty damn behind on things...they just now started allowing people to purchase badges for the festival, with the cutoff date for regular and student badges being...tomorrow! The hell?

Ok, times & theatre postings from the Urbanworld Film Festival Program Guide--we're first up to bat on Friday! It's pretty awesome that we basically kick off the first full day of screenings. I'm getting more and more excited as Thursday gets closer. Check it:

And here's our official half-page synopsis from page 47 of the Program Guide--this is too cool not to share:

I'm in the program guide! In the words of Jason Lee, "Holy shit weasels!"
