Actually disagree with his review a little bit- I did enjoy the book a lot more than I thought I would. Agree that the vampires aren't as big a part of the book as they should've been, but I thought the wartime scenes were goddamn horrific. Especially since most of it is based on fact, specifically the siege of Siege of Leningrad, which if you've read anything about you know how insane the whole thing was.
Not a great book, but I thought it was pretty fun. I've got the third one laying around somewhere, I want to see how it compares. I believe they've also just collected all 3 into an omnibus.
