Who Can Kill a Child?

Holy shit, what a powerful flick. This was just released on dvd here, it's never made it out over here completely uncut... I can only imagine what it's missing.

Here's the IMDB page.

Anyone checked this out? Going to be writing a review but let me just say it's well worth your time. You can see the influence of The Birds and Night of the Living Dead on it, and it's funny that the featurette with the cinematorgrapher says exactly that. Morbid, creepy.... it's the perfect (or worst) film for people who are scared for future generations.

Edit: Oops, nevermind... it's coming out on dvd in a couple of weeks. I'll get a full review before that.

You've got me interested. Is this thread going to get spoilerfied or is it safe to read a bit more about this before I try to pick it up?

Me!

Oh, you're discussing a movie. I'll go now.

Just for fun, you should attach a poll to this.

No spoilers, no polls. The movie is all about the title, though.

I realize now that my last post makes it sound like this new version ain't the uncut version- it is. The movie was released here as Island of the Damned, I remember seeing the film at a video store or something but never checked it out.

welcome to the pretty small club of people who have seen this great, great horror film. best way to describe it without being too spoilery would be Children of the Corn crossed with NOTLD (but made when Malachi et al were but a glint in Daddy of the Corn's eye). I would also recommend The House that Screamed by the same director, a Spanish giallo that's as good as anything from Italy.

what's the quality of this disc like?

SPOILER

Re the cut/uncut thing... not sure what might be different in the one titled "Island of the Damned", but if I remember correctly there is an alternate version with all the violence intact but missing the original intro montage sequence that showed the suffering of children around the world (an intro which really sets the stage well for when they get their revenge on the adults). this might also be referred to as the "cut version".

Yeah, I figured the opening sequence would be the first to go. Especially since (swipe) it was mostly real war-time footage of kids sick and dying.

The disc looks beautiful, I'm sure much better than any version has before. Mono soundtrack but it's booming, very crisp and clear, guaranteed to make you jump at the right parts. As for extras there's only 2 featurettes, but they're quality- one with the director, another with the cinematographer. There's also an option to listen to it in English but it changes to Spanish on the portions of the movie that there's no other audio available, so I just watched the whole thing in Spanish.

Wow, I thought this was going to be a thread about the Chris Benoit tragedy.

Terrible, terrible thing.

Roid Rage: The Rise of Chris Benoit
Roid Rage II: Benoit's Revenge
Roid Rage III: Okay, I'll Stop Now

Anyway, I just got the DVD for 'Who Can Kill A Child?' but I've not watched it yet and I honestly can't even fully recall pre-ordering it, but here it is so..., I'm hoping it turns out to be all that I've heard.

Well, at least no one around me understands my knee-jerk hand raising when I saw this thread title.
