So a ton of details have surfaced...

- One disk with 4 separate campaigns. Guitar, Drum, Bass and Vocal. Each can be played on its own from start to finish, in addition, a full band game is designed to allow for one huge co-op playthrough.

- Will feature full support for four player online play on both 360 and PS3. Any combination of on/offline play will work and each player can pick their own difficulty setting.

- Flexible community system will allow you to find bandmates anywhere in the world

- There will be a way for you to share your band's triumphs with the world, but the details are still under wraps.

- Musical fret-boards are now transparent so you can see more of the background visuals. Guitar is on the left side of the screen, Bass on the right and drums down the middle. Vocals scroll from right to left along the top of the screen.

- Guitars and Bass now have 10 frets. 5 for the regular sections of the game and 5 for the newly designated solo sections.

- 4 songs announced in the article, not sure if this is new or old but whatever.
Weezer - Say It Ain't So - Original Master Track
Black Sabbath - Paranoid - Original Master Track
The Who - Won't Get Fooled Again - Original Master Track
Nirvana - In Bloom - Original Master Track

I cannot fucking wait for this. Holy shit does this sound awesome.

More HERE!

Holy crap.

My main beef is the tag price attached to this. It's gonna be pretty hefty.

It's also coming for the Wii if I'm not mistaken.

"If you play drums in this game on hard or expert, then you're really playing the drums. Apparently you could sit down at a real set and play the same songs. "

I hope this is fucking true, because I'd love to be able to play drums, but since I live in an apartment and cannot afford a electronic drum kit, this sounds like the next best thing. This game cannot come fast enough.
Fucking hell. This is the thing that's going to make me break down and rebuy the guitars for the 360. That multiplayer sounds awesome.
Sweet fucking Christ. What a winter for us rockers.
Fucking hell, I need it. If this comes out for $200 or less, I'll instantly buy it.

Since I don't really know anyone who will be willing to jam with me in person (pathetic, I know. My friends really only dig on sports games.) I love that it's single-player also. Harmonix, I am gay for you.

Gotta get my windmilling arm ready.

Ridiculous. This is supposed to be out in the fall? If they come through with all of that goodness (plus who knows how much detail they've yet to release), it really will be revolutionary. I'm stunned.

Holy crap this sounds amazing. My Game Informer usually shows up in my mailbox on a Friday or Saturday, I REALLY hope the issue is waiting for me whan I get home today.

I wonder what all of this will cost me - I can imagine that some other games I am anticipating this year will get bypassed. Assuming this does indeed come out in the fall. Like Poulsonator, the scope of the game is huge, seems amazing if this really comes out by year's end.

EB/Gamestop has some of the components listed for preorder, all separate. This is likely just placeholder stuff, and a way for them to try and get you to start giving them pre-order money. No pricing is official, and I imagine there will be bundles. But for what it is worth:

Rock Band game - $60
Drum set - $80
Guitar controller - $60
Wireless guitar - $80
Microphone - $40
I'm with Gravedigger here. Under 200$, mine without thinking, nor consulting with the wife.

The drums and the 10-frets guitars are what's selling me this. If it does come out on the Wii, then I might reconsider GH3 for the Wii and just get it for the PS2 and go Rock Band Wii.
"Paranoid" is not only my favorite Sabbath/Ozzy song, but just about my favorite song ever. This will be difficult to pass on.

This is it, boys. Rhythm game Armageddon. There's nowhere left to go after this drops.
my jaw is still on the ground after reading all this information.

The fact that harmonix is still willing to support the GH guitar buys them points with me...enough that I feel more than ok spending the extra money for a new guitar and likely a microphone.

I imagine we can all use our old GH guitars to double as bass guitars right? I doubt they will be using the extra frets on barn burning bass solos right?

I think the online band support is what is getting me really going. I love the LIVE experience, and playing guitar hero co-op is an experience i haven't had the pleasure of doing enough. Putting together an online band sounds awesome. My God, the amount of stuff in the game though makes a 60 dollar price tag a steal.

I am still awaiting the inevitable EA screw job when it comes to some aspect of this game though (likely the DLC)

Nowhere to go until Super Extreme Eyetoy Dance Dance Karaoke Revolution: Pop Superstar Edition hits the shelves, you mean.
oh and the ability to go free form on the mic or the guitar....FUCK YES now thats what I call fucking star power.
Some pics of Rock Band's Fender Strat.

Decent of them that the guitar doubles as the bass, too. Maybe you can throw it in the air and let it hit you on the head for star power during "In Bloom".
Ooh. I like the buttons down the neck like that.

But how are we supposed to use the old guitars with this again?

Per the Game Informer article, looks llike we'll be able to use the Xplorer. But I guess you would just have to do without the new functionality the Rock Band guitar adds?

The new fret buttons are for HOPO solo sections, I'd guess the regular Xplorer fret buttons would work for this?

You don't have the 5-way switch on the Xplorer, so either you can't use pedal effects, or you have them mapped to the Xplorer's d-pad?

So while they are not forcing you to buy the Fender controller, they are sure making it hard to resist. For me, at least.
With the PS2 guitars currently not working fully properly with the PS3, and the GH3/Rock Band compatibility most likely not going both ways, I'm more and more inclined to go for the Rock Band Fender and just buy the PS2 version of GHIII, DLC be damned.
Dammit, Joel Zumaya's never going to be an effective fantasy baseball pitcher.
gorgeous guitar. I like the more realistic finish to the neck as well.

News is in-

$200 for the bundle, which is assumed to be one wireless guitar, the drums, the mic, and the game. Street dated for 11/21/07.

Guitar Hero III, however, is street dated for 10/28, and is ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS with one guitar. Activision has lost their fucking mind.

Why? If anything seems high, it's the pricing for Rock Band.

Considering that a decent microphone shouldn't run you more than twenty dollars, that means you're paying eighty extra bucks for a drum set that I don't particularly want or need.
The first two GHs were around 89.99 on release, so the third one hitting 99.99 isn't too surprising.
Maybe it's only the Xbox 360 version of GHIII that's going to be a hundred bucks. In which case the $10 price increase makes perfect sense, since they're swapping the wired guitar for a wireless model.

I'm almost positive the original was $69.99 on release.

I don't think $200 is that bad a price if you're interested in the full set, but if there's no way to pick and choose, it kind of sucks.
One hundred for GHIII?

Wow. That does suck. I don't know why I have to keep paying more money for what is basically Madden with guitars. Throw in new tracks, a few new game modes, and shinier graphics.

I love GH but the 69-89 price range seemed perfect. And as far as the new GH Les Paul is concerned, are there any new features to it that change gameplay besides the possibility of swapping "Face plates" and possibly necks?

I'm just glad there's an officialy Rock Band thread now.
100 bucks does sound like a ton of money though, but Slater is right, the math makes sense.

I have always said Activision is just as bad as EA, they just didn't have as many franchises to shill but they seem to be remedying that now.

I think 200 bucks for rock band is a steal though. A regular USB mic won't have the level recognition if you are trying to make the singing portion as legit as possible. While I dont feel the drums are necessary, I feel like I would love to try it out, and if we can use our old xplorers as bases, we will be set.

I think I'm the most excited for the drums actually. The new guitar does look fucking sweet, and 200 bucks isn't that bad at all.

Is there a source for the news?
A $200 Rock Band bundle is a bargain in my mind, as I want the wireless Strat and the drum set. I could live without the microphone, but it may be cheaper to get the bundle, rather than buying the items I want piece meal. That's what it looks like right now, based on the pricing EB shows.

As far as Guitar Hero 3, I have yet to see that the Les Paul offers anything more than just being wireless. Changeable faceplates, removable neck? No big deal. But no new functionality, like the Strat's 5 extra fret buttons and 5-way switch?

So right now, I see myself just wanting to purchase disc-only GH3 sometime in the future, don't see the need for the guitar bundle.
Didn't I heard that the whole game was made for 4 instruments, Guitar, Mic, Bass and Drum ?

The whole bundle doesn't include the bass (the extra guitar)?
News is mentioned on Gamespot. It's also in the system for GS/EBGames with the street date included, which basically means they ain't making shit up.

Yeah, bundle will just include a single guitar, and of course, there isn't a specific guitar controller needed for the bass. So if you want to form a full band in your living room, you'll have to use one of your Guitar Hero Gibsons, or buy another Rock Band Fender.

Also, I read the Game Informer article, and contrary to the first post in this thread, I think it said that there was NOT a bass guitar career campaign. So only 3 campaigns, guitarist, drummer, vocalist.
Well I'm going to broke before the year is out. Got to have Rock Band and Guitar Hero 3 and I haven't even gotten my PS3, 360 or Wii yet.
I find it a bit odd that the 360 guitar costs $20 more than the PS3 one, while the drum set is the same price. Assuming the price increase is from the modifications to accommodate the wireless technology, they're either taking a hit with the 360 drums or overcharging with the PS3 set.
I hope theres a mode where the guitarists can sing as well. It would just seem weird to have a singer with no instrument when the original song is sung by one of the players.

Now my living room could look like the 40 Year Old Virgin's.

I think I'm going to pass due to the price tag and the sheer fact that I'll have plastic guitars and drums in my living room.
that looks pretty awesome man.

and yes i always get weird looks when ppl walk into my apt and see the x-plorer guitar sitting there, but fuck em.
When I saw it on Kotaku I freaked. That seems like it's going to be insanely fun. I'm intrigued as to how the gameplay for the drums will differ from that to the guitar.
The caption next to the drums: "This isn't an actual representation of the drum set -- Harmonix should reveal the final design soon. We crafted this picture from memory based on the time we played with the prototype."

The caption under the mic: "Concept art only."

So the look of the drums and the mic is far from final.
How does someone forget the design of a drum set that simple? If thats the prototype then I doubt harmonix would radically change it. Tweak it, sure but total new look, probably not.

Though I wouldnt mind two drums higher than the bottom two to give it more of a drum kit feel.

I've had plastic guitars and drums in my living room for years, thanks to Guitar Hero and Donkey Konga. I can't wait to add Rock Band's plastic instruments to my collection.

here is where someone makes the obligatory "yea but how many women have you had in your living room!" Hiyo!
Around eleven women, but they were plastic as well. Holy shit! I just realized that if I'm going have all those plastic instruments in my living room I should really have an inflatable lady band. I'd be like Robert Palmer except more creepy.

And most likely recently divorced.
