Lego Artist

Man, this guy does some amazing stuff. My son is in the Lego stage, and we own a bunch of the Star Wars Lego sets. Knowing how complicated those are, and seeing what this guy does...it's unreal. We went to the Lego store at Disney World earlier this year, and there was a guy there doing a full scale rendition of the Batcave, including Wayne Manor on top of it, in addition to a full-blown version of Arkham Asylum with a bunch of criminals escaping.

Make sure you click on the "Gallery" link in the article.

Outstanding.

While this guy's certainly good at making neat stuff out of Legos, he's one of the most maddeningly inane artists I've ever seen interviewed.

"I see this piece as someone pulling themselves apart."

Well yes, dumbshit, because that's what you made. It's a statue of a guy pulling himself apart. You can't call that subtext anymore when you made that the text. I'm sure he's a nice guy and all, and his sculptures are neat, but man. I've seen bags of hair more eloquent.

Happily, he's not an author.

True enough, but he's one of those guys that you just don't want to talk about his work, because it'll make you like it less.

Also, I always thought that building an homage to New Orleans out of Legos was a little unintentionally crass.

wow, some of those are really intense.

What you don't realize is that's the model that was requested by the Bush administration for the rebuilding effort.

Yeah, like this one-

"'Red' was originally titled 'Escape' as I envisioned this man climbing out of the loose red bricks that surround him. However, I changed the title because many people see him sinking downwards."

Couldn't 'Escape' have worked just as well? Who renames their pieces (no pun intended) depending on what people think of the work?

It is amazing stuff, but it's funny to see him not getting his own art.

It's a proof-of-concept piece for the new levees.

I'd also like to point out that even with all those Legos, he still didn't make ONE frickin' awesome castle or spaceship.

FAIL.

So not even Lego white guys have asses?

Impressive I suppose, but I prefer the huge dioramas of cities, etc.

I've done the infinity thing before.

I'm an artist!

You know, I was extremely talented with Legos as a child, and was only limited by my parents' ability to afford the sets I would beg for. Legos are very expensive. I believe I could be a successful Lego artist as an adult. Too bad I don't have a million dollars to spend on materials.

I drew a line on a page before. I'm an abstract artist! Suck on that, Jason!

Now that's sweet-

I know that your bald (as am I), but you just have to let it go. Talking to bags of hair is detrimental to the healing process.
