I don't think anyone is lamenting its inclusion. The one negative comment I read about it was that something from the last ten years should have been higher.

I don't get it, I guess.
If someone was going to do an impression of an actor of a musical for some board game... what do you think they would sing? The opening lyrics and imagery created by the song are Iconic. It's just your basic classic, that's all. No matter what, it's going to be on the list the same way that Citizen Kane, The Godfather, Star Wars, Jaws, and a Clockwork Orange is going to be on ANY classics list.

The version of "Edelweiss" right before the Von Trapps escape will make you its bitch, that's how.

Garbage.

It's not like it was cinemaphile perfection before. It was a generally crappy list, now it's still a generally crappy list.

Have you seen it? It's arguably the greatest Hollywood musical. Singin' in the Rain is perhaps the most well known dance number of all time. Donald O'Connor doing Make Em Laugh might even be better.

And, beyond the musical elements, it works as a satirical/farcial look at Hollywood making the transition from silent films to talking pictures. The sequence where the sound falls out of synchonization is a terrific bit for any comedy. It would be a good movie without the musical numbers.

It's a polished gem that illustrates everything good about the Hollywood musical.

I really don't know how they took Fantasia off the list.

Maybe a 'delete' button?
