NBA Off-Season '07 - Page 2

Ainge, at best, has 2-3 years to win a championship with Allen and Garnett. And when he doesn't he'll be back to the lottery like this year except he'll have a huge KG contract to deal with.

I could see if a team was close to get Garnett but the Celts aren't going to win shit. Pistons, Cavs, and Bulls are still better. And if the Raptors improve a bit they might just be a 6th seed.

McHale and Ainge need to be out of management.

I dunno- I'm wracking my brain to come up with a recent trio in their prime with the talent of Allen, Garnett and Pierce. I get the feeling they could win the division if I played point.

Jordan, Pippen, Grant.

Still need more than talent to win. Do the Celts have any Bench?

I'm sorry to butt in here, but I just wanted to offer up a lament. Garnett got traded on Tuesday, and a freeway bridge collapsed on Wednesday. Minneapolis is just not catching any breaks this week.

Horace Grant? Which of the three players I mentioned is Horace Grant equaled to in talent?
Pierce or Allen. Offense isn't everything. Grant was an excellent defender who would have made more first and 2nd teams if not for the all time greats like Malone and Rodman. The guy helped 3 teams reach the finals winning with 2 of them. WTF has Paul Pierce ever done?
Horace Grant = Paul Pierce.

The mind boggles.

Hey, let's add Bill Wennington to this conversation!
Are you suggesting that Garnett = Jordan or Allen = Pippen? I understand you're saying trios and not just two legends and a scrub thrown in (although I would rather build a team around Michael, Scottie, and Jud Buechler's haircut than the Celtics trio) but by any measure Grant and Rodman were fine players in their prime.
You're making that distinction too black and white. It's really unfair to compare anyone to Jordan or Pippen. But it's unquestionable that Garnett, Allen and Pierce are amongst the top five at their position. Both Pierce and Allen are not only superior shooters but also extremely adept at creating their own shot, and both are a lock for 20-25 ppg. And Garnett- I don't think anyone has been as freakishly athletic in the history of the game, and he's the textbook definition of unguardable. Dennis Rodman was a temperamental, one-dimensional player who could come alive on the defensive end, and Horace Grant was a respectable veteran in his time with Chicago.

I like this Boston trio. I wonder how the team will fill up the roster with scrubs willing to play for the minimum.

Greg Oden is likely gone for the season.

I liked them looking for the silver lining in that article, as if anything involving the words "knee" and "surgery" in basketball can ever be anything but catastrophic.
The only very, very tiny silver lining is that he's missing what would be his sophomore season in college. He's still got plenty of prime years ahead of him if he isn't the black Bill Walton. If he does turn out to be a walking game of Jenga, however, they are royally fucked. I feel really badly for the kid. He seems like the kind of guy you'd wanna root for.

Umm....did Portland check out his knee? If so, how was this missed?

Has anyone seen Sam Bowie and Greg Oden together in the same room?

Sorry to bring this back from the dead, but how is Nash/Marion/Stoudemire that hard to think of?
How about a recent trio that makes Allen, Garnett and Pierce look like trash?

Scottie Pippen, Hakeem Olajuwon and Charles Barkley.

And they got bounced in the first round.
They weren't in their prime, though.
True enough, but they weren't Karl Malone on the Lakers either.
They were pretty close.

The correct answer to the question, however, is Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili, and Tony Parker. So that's fairly recent.
While Ginobili and Parker are good players, they'll never be considered elite basketball players to me.
