If anyone saw Zappa plays Zappa on tour this year, this is one of the performances they use for the video. Great stuff.

Elvis Costello playing "Radio, Radio" on SNL after he was told not to -
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KOuknbvu21Q

This one caught me by surprise -

http://youtube.com/watch?v=XDNDqYl65sU

That "Guns of Brixton" cover is cool, as is this cover of "Love Will Tear Us Apart" by U2 and Arcade Fire together -

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eGQWnbfFB6o

Too bad the sound sucks on that one.

If New Order covers Joy Division, is it really a cover?

John Lurie and the Lounge Lizards: http://youtube.com/watch?v=kRY_PZIKeqM

Worth it for the dumb cunt comments like this one:
that was pretty good for warming up and trying to tukne their instruments, when will they actually play something, and the same song at the same time

Holy shit, that's awesome. That's Marc Ribot on guitar, right? I've heard a few songs by them over the years, but never got around to picking anything up. Any suggestions to start out?

Awesome clip. I really miss Lurie. Lounge Lizards are actually one of my favorite jazz(?) groups. Dave, I've got three of their discs. Their first S/T release is often faster / more aggressive than their other albums. Some tracks on their debut are punk-jazzish like Naked City's S/T. Other pieces are loungier. It might be your safest bet to start there. But an alternate route would be to go with Voice of Chunk (maybe my favorite LL album) which is more layered and sophisticated. Queen of All Ears was the first LL I bought and I still like that one too. I don't own No Pain for Cakes, but I've read and heard good things about it. If I were you, I'd sample some clips online of their S/T and Voice of Chunk before making a decision.

Pretty much what Ryan said. If you like this track, go straight for 'Voice of Chunk', which has Ribot (yeah, that's him) doing some great stuff. 'No Pain For Cakes' is also good, and I'm quite partial to the band's final* disc, 'Queen of All Ears'. The songs on 'Queen' are really circular and beautiful, and Lurie sounds outstanding.

Furthermore, Lurie's soundtrack disc 'Manny and Lo & African Swim' has some wonderful stuff on it (shorter songs, with almost a pop vibe, done in varying styles) and if you like the couple songs with vocals you might like his Marvin Pontiac disc, which is a very broad riff on blues and electric folk. VERY broad. 'Men With Sticks' by the John Lurie National Orchestra is also great, but very very hard to find. (I don't have a copy or I'd offer to send it.)

*Final in that it was released nine years ago, and Lurie's basically out of music now.

EDIT: And I'll never, ever forgive myself for not going to see the Lounge Lizards tour for 'Queen' at the Paradise in Boston. I'm still sad about missing that.

It's possible this isn't a song you're meant to dance to at a wedding.

Lately I've been enjoying 'Thou Shalt Always Kill' by Dan le Sac and Scroobius Pip. It's cute, but a lot of fun.

The National's roundtable performance of "Start a War"

I'm a huge fan of perfomances like this, or Arcade Fire's elevator performance of Neon Bible, apparently done by the same french blog. I love performances that stretch the normal "artist/audience" format.

Some of Bob Mould ripping through 'Makes No Sense At All' on Sunday.

I'm praying someone shot most of his set. I only caught the end where he killed that song, 'Celebrated Summer' and fucking 'New Day Rising'. Was pure bliss to see him play those songs and look like he was loving it. (He also did 'I Apologize' and some Copper Blue-era Sugar songs, which I missed.)

Also: clip I shot of the 'soundcheck' and first song of Lightning Bolt's set on Friday. You can't even tell that it's a song (much) but goddamn, Brian Chippendale's drumming is fun to watch.
