I'm with you, Alex...at this point, all I can do is sigh, shake my head, and shrug my shoulders. This deluge of remakes has defeated me, and I just don't care anymore.

On a side note, I haven't seen Jacob's Ladder in YEARS, but I remember really liking it. I should watch it again soon. So at least this story has inspired me to check out the original.

That's pretty much the only reason I wrote the article. It's one of those movies that you begin to forget just how amazing it is, it's always nice to go back to it.

The dvd that's out now for some reason doesn't list the features on the back, but it's actually a great dvd... got a little making of doc, deleted scenes and a commentary with Adrian Lyne.

Cool...I may have to pick that one up eventually.

Totally unnecessary.

One of the pleasures of the original is the excellent, understated acting. Tim Robbins has gone on to make a name for himself, but how often does a production take a chance on somebody like Elizabeth Pena for a leading role? The movie is full of that kind of thing. I'm appalled.

Wasn't this already remade as The Sixth Sense?

Hell no!

It was also made before as Carnival Of Souls.

And made again recently as Stay

So I guess what we're saying is this story has been told more times than Dracula.

I maddeningly don't understand this. The film is perfect, hasn't dated, isn't that old, and cannot be re-made creepier. People's brains in Hollywood have gotten even softer.

And wasn't it pretty much a box office flop?

And a remake would gurantee some sort of box office success?

Besides the movie pretty much inspried the Silent Hill series

Poor Jacob Singer's going to have to change his name when he find out that some studly young CW star is taking over for Tim Robbins' character.

That's normally a good reason for a remake, but it's failure was based on it confusing the general masses, as opposed to being in any way a good idea trapped in a poor or dated film. Short of the remake taking a "Clarissa Explains it All" tack (think "Donnie Darko" director's cut), it's destined for similar box office receipts.

Films that require thought like Jacob's Ladder, Memento, Primer, etc. just aren't destined to do gang busters at the box office, which is why someone investing in a remake of this makes little sense.
