krazy kung fu DVDs

I am looking for some Kung Fu DVDs with some crazy ass action scenes in them. My next short film is going to involve ninjas fighting and the guys I found are the kind of crazy people who can run up walls and flip over people and stuff like that.

I am looking for some well directed DVDs with that kind of crazy over the top fighting style so I can see how the fighting was shot (camera angles).

Any suggestions on titles? (in print titles please - I need to find them at stores and don't want to pay a bundle on e-bay for an out of print flick)

I'd say anything with Tony Jaa in it would qualify.

The craziest ninja-vs-kung fu movie I've ever seen (and probably ever will) is "Ninja In The Dragon's Den." I think you can pick it up at HKflix.com or something. The intro has a lot of cool ninja sequences--there's a lot of clips on youtube.

Iron Monkey is insane, the fight scenes in the beginning of the film are pretty simple and almost comical, but by the end the humor is gone and the fights are just fucking crazy.

Starving Dog, Ryuhei Kitamura's Azumi, and Versus, the Sister Street Fighter Collection Starring Sue Shihomi's (Protoge of Sonny Chiba) as well as Dragon Princess also Shihomi with a cameo by Chiba, and the classic Sho Kosugi Revenge Of The Ninja. All are available on dvd on reigon 1.

The upcoming anime films based on Fist Of The North Star (there are going to be 5 of them in all). Fist of The North Star is an Ultraviolent M rated martial arts series featuring a super powered martial artist wandering a post apocalyptic earth fighting roving gangs, mutants, an equally powered rival responsible for kidnapping his fiance, as well as his brother Raoh who only wants to take over what is left of the world. It is Mad Max combined with Kung Fu, and features way over the top violence. Strreamline released the film years ago and one of the anime channels was airing all 150+ episodes, I think it was Action Max, but I am not sure.

Shaw Bros.' Chinese Super Ninja.

Needs to be seen just for the 5 elements costumes and the crazy weapon usage alone.

Cool. I'll check these out. I have nothing to do with the stunt coordinating, but I do want to see camera setups and angles to get the best shots I can when watching them practice the fighting.

Thanks for all the advice.

If you're interested in shot composition then I suggest Once Upon A Time in China 1 and 2 which have some of the best shot fights scenes I think I've seen. I'd also suggest the Magnificent Butcher and Master of Flying Guillotine for more crazy stuff.

As far as fight choreagraphy and being able to see and understand what is going on in a scene I would watch any of the following:

Drunken master I & II
Killzone (American Title, the fight in the Ally is really bad asshole)
Dirty Ho
Fist of Legend (Probably one of the all time greats as far as fights go just stunning and you can see everything)
Twin Warriors
Shaloin master Killer
Black Mask
Once upon a time in china and america (The one with Clubfoot from part 3, that whole series except part 4 is great)
Wing Chun (Michelle Yeoh)
Shaolin Temple (1982)
Iron Monkey (Part 2 has some good fights also)
Dragon Inn
In The Line of Duty 4 (Great action flick with Donnie Yen)
Arahan (2004 Korean Movie)
Mortal Kombat (Say what you will but almost all the fights are shot very well, the standouts being Scorpion and Johny Cage/ Reptile and Lui Kang)

Five Fingers of Death (a.k.a. King Boxer) has some really good angles and compositions and its a shaw brothers movie, so it'll also give you some ideas on staging a fight.

I'm looking up alot of Sammo Hung movies lately, but mostly the ones with a supernatural/ horror side to them, and almost all movies that he's either directed or action choreagraphed are considered prime examples of excellent camera work/ stunt work (his stunt team is crazy) in action scenes.

I received his Eastern Condors and Mr Vampire parts 1-4; they both thouroughly kicked my ass and I'm now looking for anything good with Sammo.

Apparently, his action scenes are considered more hard-hitting and rageful then for example Shaw Brothers' scenes, that seem to have more of a "staged" feel.
Any recs are welcome.

Just watched the new Dragon Dynasty DVD over the weekend. I highly recommend King Boxer, so many memorable fight sequences in the film.

You have no idea. Ninjas on hang glider/kites. The ninjas in this movie are unlike any I've seen, they can be invisible so at one point a guy stabs the ground and blood sprays out.

And ninjas that assemble into a SUPER GIANT NINJA.

If you like "Duel to the Death" check out "Riki-oh" both are way over the top, plus Riki-oh is famous for that short head-smashing scene from the Daily Show several years back.

Riki Oh is great! You can watch most of it in bits on You Tube
