CHUD Fantasy Football V

Thread Starter
Well, for the first time since 2003, I actually have beaten Martianman to starting a thread about the new Chud fantasy football league.

Good news / Bad news

Good News - I have sent invitations to all people who have earned a spot into the main Chud Fantasy Football League - the FIFTH year of it's existance. Well, everyone except Slowpulse, who I don't have the e-mail for. And anyone who changed e-mail addresses since last year.

Bad News - I don't want to run the secondary Chud League this year. For those who are curious, the top 3 from the secondary league get a promotion into the main league. The bottom three from the Main League get dropped to the secondary league. If anyone wants to run the secondary league, PM me and I will send you a list of e-mail addresses and names for the players who are returning for that league. They should get first chance to join it before any newbies join up.

I set up the main league's draft as Monday, August 27 at 9pm central time.

I also kept the scoring the exact same as last year except Yahoo now allows bonuses, so I set up a 5-point bonus for 100 rushing yards, 100 receiving yards and 300 passing yards.

Questions? Comments? Martianman?

Ta-dah! This was the only non-dynasty league I didn't win last year (even though I made the final game), so I'm ready to rock this year. Although I'm coaching 10-year-olds in football this year as well, so lots of football challenges lie ahead.

Pick #1 for the Alpharetta Martians: Tiki Barber!

I didn't get the email (and I believe I'm the reigning champ). Are you afraid of me?

I'm trying to think if I missed the bump up cut. I think I might have.

you both made it and I sent it to the e-mail addresses I had last year. Sammy's was a hotmail address and Jason's was a yahoo address. Did you not get them?
Yahoo? Wow... I haven't used that in a long time. It's different now. I might have had that on there because we were using Yahoo for the fantasy league.

I PM'd you my new email.
I PMed my email address again too, but it hasn't changed. Weird.

I think we should consider making this a dynasty league. It seems to have legs. I'd love to have a couple of my players back.

got and got. resent both. I had Jason's wrong address and I just resent Sammy's.

If Slowpulse does not show back up (been gone from Chud since December) then Gio gets first chance to return, since he was champion two years ago and just had a bad year last year.

Anyone else want this?

It would involve no more promotions and demotions to the other league, which is no problem for me since I am not interested in running it anymore.

This is the fifth year and most people have been around since the beginning. I think Jason is the only new player from last year.

Maybe a 3-5 player keeper league?

Who is interested?
I'd like to keep some of my players.

I'll get one board sometime tomorrow. Time to go home!

I think I've been bumped off. Which sucks. But I'm in for whatever, if there's an opening, or another league. (Never done a keeper league before, would be interesting.)

Thanks for the invite.

My football glands have been salivating...

The standing since the beginning are now available to view in Yahoo! All four years we have run the league are available to see now on the new league site.

I've been playing FF forever, and yet I've never been in a keeper league. However, is 3-5 players a common amount to keep in a 12 team league?

We keep 3 in my 10 team money league.

I am also in a dynasty league where we keep everyone and have a rookie/free agent draft every year.
I don't get dynasty leagues. The best part is draft night.

Back to the A league. Hopefully I will continue my good CHUD league fortune. Still First in the fantasy baseball league.

Thanks for the legacy vote. Here's hoping that Slowpulse = no pulse. His Chewer board pulse, not real life pulse. Well, if the latter ensures the former, then so be it.

FF brings out the worst in me.

We wanted to try something new. It is cool so far, as I have traded the first pick of the rookie draft for Caddilac Williams and the third pick in the draft. The guy I traded with wants Adrian Peterson and I think I think I can swing Marshawn Lynch. It is something new, but I would not want to do more than one league like that.

I love keeper leagues though, and three players is a good number.
i love the total restart of fantasy football every year.

i have been playing single seasons pretty intensely for the past 5 years, but I have always been slightly curious about the dynasty league. Maybe we could start a separate dynasty league rather than turning the current CHUD league into a dynasty.

I don't like the idea of a dynasty league. If anything, I like keeper leagues, but I agree, I like the chance to draft new players every year in a few leagues.

I say we stay the same.

I guess I don't understand keeper vs. dynasty. I'd like to be able to keep 2-3 of my best players (keeper league, I guess?) and draft lots of new ones. but I'm not married to the idea. It first struck me when I had LaDanian Tomlinson a few years back.
I'm in.

I must be confused about keeper vs. dynasty as well.

I'm wanting to keep a few select players but draft a lot of new guys.
i think a dynasty league involves a majority of your team staying over from year to year, vs. a keeper league where you just choose 3 ppl to stay over.

Dynasty's usually have a rookie/free agent draft that is pretty devoid of a lot of talent, while keeper league's drafts are still pretty chock full of talent (B level guys that aren't worth a keeper pick but still valuable). Both lack elite talent though because they are all retained from the previous year.

My fault for causing the confusion.
I could go for a keeper league. But moving up, that could cause some problems... especially if I have the same guy that someone else wants to keep around.
I think we're all talking about a keeper league then. 2 or 3 players would be fine for me. I'm sorry I called it by the wrong name up there.

If you come up from the b league, you won't have any keepers. It's like hazing.

Keeper drafts can get better than B players.

In my main league I get to choose from Steven Jackson, Lawrence Maroney, Fred Taylor, Maurice Jones-Drew, Tory Holt, Andre Johnson and Larry Fitzgerald.

I only get three and the rest go into the draft. There will be two real good receivers in the draft after I make my cuts

No keeper league, then!
all joking aside, if we turn the A-league into a keeper league, that will effectively kill the adoption program starving has set up.

so if its even done at all, we create a separate league. but I do think it requires dedicated FF'ers. Its bad enough when ppl drop out of single season fantasy leagues, we dont need ppl dropping out of keeper leagues.
We have 10 teams signed up. It's July 2nd. Some of use are into this apparently.

What happens in a keeper league when people drop out? You replace them with people who don't have keepers, right?
If we have both keepers and B league adoptions, one way to do it is to allow the three transplant owners to cherry pick their keepers from the rosters of the three outgoing teams.

A mini-draft, if you will.

The order can either be randomly chosen, or based on last year's final standings. Even though they'll be picking their studs from underperforming teams, they can still grab some top players.

Hell, last year's worst team alone had Shaun Alexander, Willis McGahee, Kevan Barlow, Hines Ward, and Jeremy Shockey. Yes, that was me.
Yeah, I've got three guys that I will probably never see unless I get someone willing to let me pick off of my old team. They really came through in a pinch and I can't image them being available on teams that didn't make this years cut.

I like the mini draft idea...but Gio your team doesn't really spark excitement if I were an incoming B-league winner.

And since we rotate out the bottom 3, that just means the incoming 3 are more likely than not to be the 3 outgoing people when the season is over.

Just doesn't seem real fair to me.

I still vote to keep it separate.
I've know I've been flip-flopping, but if an ideal solution to incoming B-leaguers can't be found then I'm swinging my vote back to keeping things seperate.

I would be interested in playing in a new keeper league if there are enough people interested.
If there's a spot open I would mind playing.

If we go keeper league, I say keep them seperate.

Also, I would want to bring in Gio to the fold. The only two people who have not responded yet are Slowpulse and Johnny Daywalker. Slowpulse did this last year too and that is why Fazer got it, but then Slowpulse showed up late and took top 3 in the B League.

In my Keeper League, I booted two players this year and I just gave their teams to new owners. One of the owners is happy since his keepers are Larry Johnson, Donald Driver and Ronnie Brown and he love those guys.

The second team is harder because they have Marc Bulger, Julius Jones, Jamal Lewis, LaMont Jordan, Brett Farve and Randy Moss as it's only stars. Not really a shining class to choose from (I would keep Bulger, Jones and Moss).

If Daywalker gets his invite and signs in, I am sending one to Gio and that will be 12 teams.
I don't remember how I've finished in recent seasons in CHUD, but if anyone turns down an invite (or you decide to bump it up to more than 12 teams), I'd certainly be interested.
I am fine with a keeper league, however if we do that we need to start it next year. It really isnt fair for B leaguers coming in plus it would have been actually nice to draft with being in a keeper league in mind. I would say alot of picks may have been different in last years draft if we knew a premium would have been on younger players due to the keeper rules. LOL hell I know I would have drafted Jamal Lewis if that was the case.
anya doesn't seem interested in a keeper league.

how many would be interested anyway?
A keeper league to me is when you keep 3-4 players from year to year. My Dynasty league is where we keep the entire team and do rookie drafts, have complete defenses consisting of 11 players, etc. A keeper league would be fine with me. It makes you draft a bit differently as well...maybe a guy you have a small hope in this year as a rookie has great potential, so you pick him up late as possible keeper material next season.

You never start a keeper league until everyone knows about it before the first draft. I would not be fair to anybody.

There are things to do that does not involve getting on a computer?

Did I mention I'm not running a B League this year?

Who wants to expand the main Chud league to 14 teams?
I think we should cap it at 12. No offense to the new people. And let someone else run the B league, but we can still swap the bottom 3/top 3 at the end of the season.

If we do a separate keeper league, are you (Starving Dog) willing to run that one?

There are plenty of things to do without a computer when you own a house. "Free time" becomes as fictional as unicorns and a 300-yard passing game by Michael Vick.

And I vote we keep the cap at 12 teams in the league. When you go to 14 teams, you start to dilute the talent pool, and some teams end up a lot weaker than others. I played in a 14-team FoxSports league last year, and the worst 2-3 teams in the league had only 3-4 really good consistent players, then nothing much else.
