Live Earth

Anyone plan on watching any of this? The UK and US lineups look pretty stellar, but I've been enjoying the live Aussie feed on MSN, particularly Sneak Sound System.

Bravo is covering the event live tomorrow, let's hope they learned some lessons from MTV's coverage of Live 8.

Was just watching the live feed on MSN and like you here's hoping the coverage is better than Live 8.

I can't find the line-up list, can anyone help out?
The site doesn't appear to be copy and paste friendly so I can't list the artists here, but here's the link.

Just a heads up, if you're going to watch the stream, you have to use IE to get the multiple streams. Using a non-IE browser forces you to pick one country and stick with it.

Thanks for the link.

Just got done watching Eskimo Joe play on the Aussie feed, a band i've never heard before, and now looking for their album.

But yeah lets hope the coverage is better than Live 8.

I caught the end of Paul Kelly's set, a fantastic little song about the Gurindji strike, a major event in the rights movement of indigenous Australians. Great story-telling lyrics.

So far it doesn't appear to be any better. Nothing live.

They're most likely going to concentrate on the Giants Stadium concert, which doesn't start for another four hours. At least they're showing some uninterrupted performances from Australia and Tokyo though.

I was hoping to maybe catch a window in the national broadcast where I could plug my brother's Institute new degree on Renewable Energy Systems Engineering, but so far portuguese coverage is more interested in having washed-out daytime celebrities talk about how they separate their garbage at home, no sort of discussion forum.

That sounds like a cool degree, actually. Where is this institute?

In Viana do Castelo, Portugal.

There's a couple already in the States, I think. The problem is that they only got the green light for the degree this week, so they've been running around like crazy trying to let potential students know it exists before they start applying for universities, and this would be such a prime opportunity.

Alas, everyone on TV and on the Radio is too concerned with Shakira to listen.

My housemate works for Eskimo Joe!
Great band.
Saw Roger Waters live a few months ago and it was the best thing ever. Dead keen to see his stuff.

When's 'Spinal Tarp' on?

On a related note, when Shakira is performing on these shows, the person directing the telecast needs to stick a camera on her and leave it. I don't want shots of the drummer, or wide shots of the stage, or certainly not shots of the joyless German audience. Just her. It should be the easiest time of the day for the director. Go take a piss or something.

And the ball-dropping on Bravo's part begins -- while the Black Eyed Peas are performing live on the feed, they're bringing us a recorded performance by Snow Patrol.

How friggin' hard is it to just show what's going on? They've got to over-produce this stuff within an inch of its life when all you've got to do is point a camera and walk away.

Al Gore and His Amazing Friends

Is what Live Earth should have been called.
I'm listening on XM and they're playing the "greatest hits" feed on all the channels rather than the individual concerts. Annoying. I don't really care for the Black Eyed Peas or listening to Shakira.

Frusciante time!
It's also on Sundance and UHD(Univerisal). UHD is also showing the pilot(First 3 hours) of Battlesta Galatica after the concert.

Ack!

What the fuck happened to Neve Campbell?
Did anyone catch Karen Duffy on the Bravo feed? I think her cheeks have Geena-Davisitis.

Some of this stuff in between the broadcasts on Bravo is painful to watch. When people try to script "impromptu" conversation, it's never a pretty sight. I keep looking for my name on the scroll. I entered "Bob Aboowee", although I'm sure they'll pare it down to "Bob A." Yes, I'm lame.

Oh, and by the way--since when does raising awareness about a "climate in crisis" have anything to do with being a vegan? Why am I getting bombarded with people telling me about things that are vegan and telling me that being a vegan helps the environment?

Is there a reason this isn't on MTV? I know they don't play music 95% of the time but this would seem perfect for them.

MTV's coverage of these events were always abysmal. They never seemed to be allowed to show complete songs, let along complete sets, for whatever reason.

The UniversalHD channel seems to be playing the same thing as the MSN.Com feed, (actually the MSN feed sems to have a minute or two delay), which is the best we are gonna get.

For some reason there has been nothing live since the seemingly aborted Chili Pepper and Bloc Party sets. The Peppers seem to have had some technical problems and left the stage in a bit of a huff. Is something wrong at the London Show? They were having very little down time between sets, but it's been about an hour since Bloc Party finished.

Edited to add- Nevermind. I wasn't watching the live feed on MSN. Somehow it got switched to the "World Feed". I'm retarded.

Duran Duran had some technical problems as well.

Bravo seems to be letting the US concert run its course -- they're sticking with Kenna and not using his set as a chance to give us more Duff.

It seems Shakira is actually adding to global warming. If global warming were in my pants.

Raising animals for their meat and byproducts (milk, eggs) takes an enormous toll on the environment.* It's far more stressful for an ecosystem than simply raising plants. Here's a link to Vegan Action with more. If you scroll down, there's a link within the page to a United Nations report on Livestock and the Environment.

* Disclaimer - I am not a vegan and will never be a vegan. I eat a largely vegetarian diet (no pork, no beef, no seafood, only chicken once every couple of weeks), and, as such, find dairy products indispensable as a protein source. Love me some cheese. I find vegans kind of humorless and no fun at dinner parties.

eta - DaveB and I just stumbled across the coverage on Bravo in time to see Keith Urban. Woo.

Has Duran Duran played yet?

This is kinda cool on the net, sucks on Direct TV, they are only play the Wembley concert on every channel.

I read on Wikipedia that they rushed the bands along so quickly at the Wembley concert that by 9:15 London time all that was left was Foo Fighters and Madonna and almost 90 minutes of time left, so they were forced to have the presenters go out and stall. Heaven forbid you let the acts play a little longer.

Also, you all do realize that pretty much the only live content right now is coming from the NY concert, right? Everything else is replay except for Brazil.
