http://www.cnn.com/2007/TRAVEL/07/06...rs/index.html:

The Great Wall of China

Petra in Jordan

Brazil's statue of Christ the Redeemer

Peru's Machu Picchu

Mexico's Chichen Itza pyramid

The Colosseum in Rome

India's Taj Mahal

Can't say I have a problem with any of those.

Just missing the list: Kanye West's ego

As much as it matters, the exclusion of the Great Pyramid and Great Sphinx makes the list a bit suspect.

Here's a good question which of the original seven (excluding the Great Pyramid) do you wish were still around?

Wonder Roll Call:

- Hanging Gardens of Babylon
- Temple of Artemis at Ephesus
- Statue of Zeus at Olympia
- Mausoleum of Maussollos
- Colossus of Rhodes
- Lighthouse of Alexandria

Since this is CHUD I'm gonna wager that most people will pick the Colossus. As well they should.

Although the Hanging Gardens come a close second. Alexander wasn't a ver good movie but I always loved those shots of Babylon. Was that hyperbole on Stone's part or could a city that large and beautiful exist in that time?

Also missing: Monica Bellucci.

I think the impetus behind the new list was that the pyramids were the only ones still standing, so they wanted to pick ones that you could actually still see. From what I read, the pyramids were granted honorary status.

I understand, but leaving of the greatest architectural of human history because its a "carry-over" seems silly or the people voting on the wonders were morons.

And Colossus is a first level boss. What a pussy.

Having the foot of the Colossus show up throughout almost all the Rome scenes in Gladiator was such a cocktease.

I would actually go with the Lighthouse of Alexandria. I'm sure it wasn't as grand in real life, but my mind has this image of this colossal spire with an entire history etched in gold winding its way around it, peaked off with a giant flame that can be seen for tens of miles.

Glad to see Machu Picchu on there. Always loved that, even more astounding considering the wheel was lost on the Incans.

But then again, they did have advanced mathematics, medicine (for it's time period) and astronomy to get by.

I liked the way he'd act real tough, and shoot lightning bolts at people.

Hanging Gardens! Playerific.

I had read somewhere that the Pyramids, as the only surviving Great Wonder, were included in an honorary position.

Most of the descriptions we have of the Gardens come from Greek historians that never saw them with their own eyes.

I think it's location is still undetermined.

Who made the list of the original wonders? And did the Hanging Gardens even exist? There doesn't seem to be any actual eye witness accounts of them.

I'll essentially agree without the spite. I don't see how that statue compares to any of the others. Guess they needed Christ in there somewhere (the guy's high-profile enough as it is).

Agreed, Angkor Wat is fucking amazing, second only in majestic beauty to the aforementioned Ms Belluci.

EDIT: That seems to be a dead link by the way.

As long as Kong is still 8th, I'll agree with that sentiment.

The Hanging Gardens is a waste of shields. I make sure to build the Colossus as soon as I've got Bronze Working.
