After listening to it again for the first time in years, the green album is very safe, lame album. One of the worse things about it is the solos. It sounds like they just laid something in temporarily and forgot to go back and change it. Even the b-sides from that era are pretty weak, with the exception of Sugar Booger.

Too many solos that are simply the vocal melody, which is boring. Also, Rivers' admission that he'd spent a lot of time obsessively analyzing Nirvana songs to create a formula for his own songs is...oddly fanboyish.

What makes the green album even worse is the fact that it was their first album in five years. If they did an album every year it wouldn't look as bad, but as the follow-up to Pinkerton, it's unacceptable.

I'll admit, I never really "got" Weezer. They're a harmless little skiffle band that a lot of people enjoy, but I never really got into them. My Names is Jonas, Tired of Sex, and El Scorcho are really the limit for me. Tired of Sex kicks all sorts of ass though; it sounds like Cuomo's falling apart and the Albini-esque production gives the old heart strings a tug.

To me, Weezer was like the one girl (or guy) you never got over. The relationship ended way too soon, and you spent a good deal of time thinking about it and obsessing about how wonderful it was. Then you got back together and realized this person wasn't all that great.

Although, seeing them in a club opening for Live circa 1994 was pretty interesting. Live they're better, but I just don't understand all the Weezer worship.
