Lost Boys & Fright Night are always mentioned in tandem as a sort of dueling dynamic duo, but I've always felt that Vamp turned the whole deal into a trifecta (provided we isolate Near Dark for being on a different level). My love for Vamp goes beyond my desire to fuck Grace Jones (bottomless as that may be), I just think it's a genuinely funny, "well" or charmingly acted horror/comedy that has somehow remained just in the periphery of cult status.

As it rarely gets name-dropped around here, I just have to know for myself. Love? Hate? Indifference? Fear of Ms. Jones' vagina dentata?

In a just and fair world, VAMP would have the love afforded the entertaining but kinda lame LOST BOYS. I dig it unreservedly.

"I'm in the mood for love/Simply because they're naked..."

And Grace Jones is strangely sexy but she's not a patch on Candy, who melts in your mouth and in your hands.

Time to be unpopular, apparently.

Vamp is a piece of shit. It doesn't work as horror, comedy or a horror comedy, and Grace Jones is so far from sexy it ain't funny.

Just my opinion, obviously.

I really liked it back in the day. But I'm afraid to revisit it. You know, I really hated Dead Heat back in the day. Maybe I should make a double feature of them both and see how they play now.

Anchor Bay's Vamp disc contains some fascinating supplements detailing the filmmakers' connections to the New York disco scene. Andy Warhol and Keith Haring on the set-- who knew?

The DVD has some solid extras on it. The commentary is probably more fun than the movie itself.

They have it for pretty cheap at Deep Discount DVD.
