Mass Effect - Page 7

Mass Effect for the PC is now rather cheap. I should probably pick it up at some point.
My first Shepard was bald, heavily scarred, had no eyebrows and the thinnest lips I could choose. In short he looked like a burn victim and he was my Renegade biotic.

Second Shepard was a black female paragon soldier modeled on Martha Washington from Give Me Liberty.

My current playthrough Shepard is a white male paragon infiltrator with red hair and a goatee. Ginger kid in space.
My good-guy Shepard was a woman, a redhead with a skinny neck who somewhat resembled Geena Davis. She's still my favorite, as her look was a good match with the female voice performance.

My asshole version ended up looking (entirely unintentionally) almost exactly like George Takei with a mustache. Didn't match up with the voice quite as well.

How do you access the sex scene in Mass Effect? My daughter likes running around aimlessly on the Normandy, and on the Citadel, but doesn't really play the actual game. I played through the entire game without accessing it, but I don't want her to accidentally do it.
Talk to Liara and/or Ashley after every major mission, flirt every chance you get. You may end up with a scene where you have to choose between the two of them, be sure to make a definitive choice between the two of them, and no, you CAN'T have 'em both. The sex scene happens on its own before you land on Ilos.
Likely story. There's one that happens as part of the plot on Citadel right after you become a Spectre, and the other right before the final mission if you've been schmoozing up Liara or the teammate you didn't let die when you first fought Saren.

Sure, sure. Tell you exactly how it's done, to make sure your "daughter" doesn't "accidentally" stumble into some hot girl on Shepard action. And you post this innocent inquiry on the CHUD message board so the phrase "how do I trigger sex scene in Mass Effect" doesn't show up in your intertron history.

I see through your little ruse, Zeroillusion. But nice try.

Im a little late to the party but I finally started playing it this weekend. I'm at the point now where I have my own ship and I can explore distant galaxys. I've landed on a couple of planets and...its a little more difficult than I anticipated. I haven't grasped the fighting mechanism yet. I've bumped Sheppard's skill with the assault rifle only (as far as weapon skills go). I'm not sure if it's the right way to go, but I'd rather my guys be really good with one weapon rather than average with all the weaps. The first planet I went to had a Merc/Pirate compound. I actually had to go back to the ship and change my teammates because I kept dying with the original group, which actually left me pleasantly surprised. I would imagine it gets easier with weapon and skill upgrades.

Anybody have any good "builds"? I don't really utilize the skills the way I probably should at this point. Honestly, I don't think about using them when I'm in battle.
I found that changing up my team wasn't a good tactic in the long run (not to mention that it robs you of some achievements). Just pick two characters who fill in the gaps in your character's abilities, and stick with them. For instance, if you're a straight combat guy, just take Tali and Kaden.

And yes, definitely specialize your weapon skills. There's no reason to have some skill in everything.

Edit: I meant Tali and Liara. Kaden is a half biotic/half tech, which isn't terribly useful.
Just don't try to play through the game with the all-human squad ... that will end in tragedy.

I think I ended up going with Kaden and the blue girl. Something that is key is to make sure you have someone who can successfully open all the locked items you find or else you'll get stuck with crummy stuff or not be able to beat missions.

Also, regularly using the screen to tell your 2 party members to use the powers they won't use automatically (there are a couple of really useful powers that the AI won't activate unless specifically told to).
I remember thinking the game was difficult during the first few battles, but once you unlock a few key abilities, I found most of the game (especially the latter half) surprisingly easily. I found Singularity to be way overpowered, so if you're having problems, shimmy your way toward that skill.

Just finished the game. Loved it. I've been reading thru this thread and some of you refer to something happening to Sheppard. At the end of the game for me he makes mention that he has to find a way to stop the Reapers and then the credits roll. I would assume ME2 would build on the ending. Am I missing something?
and because I'm too lazy to go thru it again, what happens if you choose for the fleet to protect the council?
Nothing, really. They survive, but humanity gets its seat anyway.

The teaser for ME2 implies that Shepard is killed in action, potentially by a geth.

Agree with Greg on this one. Changing up my team and weapon specialties during my first play through was a nightmare.
The game got much easier for me when I decided to go with 2 combat specialists and Tali for all the tech stuff. Having a second character who can use immunity and who was good with the assault rifle trumped having a character who uses bio attacks.
I finally picked up Mass Effect the other day, and starting tomorrow I'm going to get my hands dirty with it. I got this and Dead Space together so it looks like I've got a lot of single player goodness in my future.
As Cordo said in the ME2 thread, the new Pinnacle Station DLC is now available. It'll be great to have some more new Mass Effect to play while waiting for ME2.
Articled. Anyone playing this now?
Curse you Bioware! Putting out new Mass Effect DLC the day Arkham Asylum comes out!

Ah well, I'll get to it eventually. Need to play through ME1 a couple more times before ME2 anyway.
Whoops. Just traded this is yesterday. I even had 400 points just sitting there waiting to be spent.
It's actually not that bad. Just very short, I'm about maybe 10 minutes away from finishing it.
It's the weirdest thing, them releasing it like this. It's almost like they're a little ashamed. It reminds me of the time in sixth grade when I put my A Separate Peace diorama waaay at the far end of the display table in the hopes that I wouldn't be asked to explain it.
I think I'm going to skip this one. Bring Down the Sky felt pretty much pointless, and I really just don't care about arena combat in Mass Effect. It feels too much like an afterthought to be worth the 400 points.
Well I checked my XBLA account from work and I was happy to discover that I had enough MS Banana Dollars to pick this up. It will be downloading once I step through the door tonight.
The firefight at the end, which feels like a Left4Dead survival mode is almost worth the 400 points alone.

Oh man, I pulled the same move with my Phantom Tollbooth diorama in elementary school. I had a good idea, but the execution was very, very poor. It was then I knew making miniature models of scenes from children's books wasn't my calling. I cried profusely.

I'm going to wait and play this when I do another run-through before ME 2, that way there'll be some new content mixed in.
I wanted to do a tree. I didn't bother looking up the paper mache recipe, so mine ended up being a shoebox full of horrible-smelling slime.

Yeah, I'll probably wait, too. I'm already burned out on Fallout 3 DLC anyway.

Well the first time I played through (i have a stratergy for RPGs. I play through the first time using an exacting trial and error method where i play through every possible outcome of any given situation and then revert to a save point once i figure out which one i want to go with. i play my first time through based upon my own personal morality in any given situation. how i would really act in that game. the second time i play an rpg, i play as the evil me) i was fem shep. and i made it look sort of like the regular fem shep but slightly more like my face and also gave her a scar.

second time through i played as evil man shep and i wanted to make him look ugly and scary, but ended up making him look like no person who ever lived. his facial structure was totall rediculas and fake

Awww but that takes some of the fun out of it. I guess that's why Fable 2 only has one save slot.
So basically this is just an arena fight? Do they give any justification for why Shepherd's even bothering?

Do you at least get some cool in-game loot for finishing it?
They have N7 armor as avatar clothing now. Why couldn't that be an award in the DLC? It looks cool, but like all the rest of them not worth it.

I havent played it yet but IGN says you get a new gun for winning. The award for beating Bring Down the Sky was pretty high end so this is probably at least as good as the Spectre guns.

I haven't finished two of the four advanced missions yet but I was given a gun after completing the 8 starting missions.

It wasn't as good as the gun I had.

The missions are pretty basic but the time trials can be a little frustrating. Unless something amazing happens once I have finished the remaining three missions (looking at the achievements there is probably a final mission) it will certainly be one of the more forgettable pieces of downloadable content.

You can save more than one character in Fable II -- the first time you try to save on a new game, the default, "Do you want to save over your previous game" message pops up, even though you're not saving over your previous campaign. Once you have two campaigns saved, and you hit "Continue" at the main screen, six save-slots are then shown, and you can pick which one to use.

Granted, it's not hugely intuitive, and Lionhead should've made it far more obvious than it is, but it's definitely there.

Yeah, just picked up that N7 armor (to accompany my N7 gamertag picture). Agreed about them charging for it, but damn if it don't look awesomely snug on my avatar (who kinda resembles the Male Default Shepard anyhow).

resurrecting this as I'm currently getting through it.

love love love this game. i generally stick with ashley and tali, sometimes switching ashley and Wrex when i want to change it up a bit but otherwise those two are my go to peoples.

playing a hard ass soldier type, generally middle of the road but going good and evil from time to time depending on the circumstances.

can't wait to finish and start on 2
