Up for a L.A. area gathering?

There are lots of my fellow Chewers in the greater Los Angeles area. Do any of y'all want to have a get together?

Suggestions on times, locations?
I'd be up for one. Just make it a Friday or Saturday night please.
Really soon I'm gonna be heading back home to tie up all my loose ends and then drive out in force with alla my crap, so I probably won't be around and free until September.

Well, I wasn't really planning on a Tuesday, so I think that can probably be arranged to most people's satisfaction.
I can probably do after Aug. 1. I'll be working late most nights until then.

Ok, I'll try to find something interesting for us to do (a good film at the Arclight followed by coffee or something) and see if anyone wants to join in.

I'd back that, Superbad screening perhaps?

Superbad, or Bourne Ultimatum, or Charlie Bartlett... Unless we can get a preview of Shoot 'Em Up. Because no matter what the script or direction, Clive Owen and Monica Belluci in the same film is a little something for everyone.

Or an encore of Hot Fuzz & Shawn of the Dead at the New Beverly.

Anyone else got any great ideas?

Are we going rogue or is this an "Official" gathering?

I'm in no way official, so I'm presuming this is Rogue. But you can call me Marie.

You're paying?
Am I paying? For myself, yeah. But not for everyone.

BTW if there is a preview of Shoot'em Up I'd be there in a second.

By the way, is LA/Hollywood best for everyone, or is there another region that would suit better for a mainstream film? Irvine/Anaheim/OC; Santa Monica; Pasadena; one of the beach cities (Huntington Beach, Long Beach)... Anyone have preferences?

I'm in Long Beach on a regular basis for rugby, etc, but it's all a drive for me, so it doesn't matter much. (Unless y'all want to come out to the cultural mecca of the Inland Empire.)

We can go to a strip bar. Or we can go to just a topless bar. There's just topless bars as well.

In that case, let's just all go to Vegas and watch The Thunder From Down Under.
Oh, those first awkward moments are going to be gold.

Alamo Drafthouse's Original Rolling Roadshow is showing Boogie Nights on a giant inflatable screen in Reseda tonight. I really don't know how that works. I would think people would have a problem showing a hard R rated film with sex and nudity in it on a giant screen where everyone can see, but hey... it's the valley.
Yeah I heard about that, I considered going but other things came up. Although I hear Armenian food will be served.

Is that what they're calling foot-long weiners these days?
I'm in. The West LA/Hollywood area works best for me, but I can drive further if necessary.
A movie at the Arclight or the new Landmark theater at the Westside Pavilion would be my suggestions.

Ok, if the Arclight works for all, then what are we to see? Death at a Funeral? Any other ideas?
Simpsons
Not Simpsons, I say either Superbad or Shoot'em Up.

Not to mention this weekend I expect to be pretty jammed up with stuff and I'd really like to do this. Plus, let's do it for a better movie.
Upcoming at the Arclight:
The Bourne Ultimatum
Becoming Jane
El Cantante
Rocket Science
Stardust
Death at a Funeral
The 11th Hour
The Invasion

They also have the Wednesday night AFI showings:
8/1: It Happened One Night
8/8: The Longest Day

*watches movie*

Fuck that, I'm NEVER going to Inland Empire now.

A kid probably came up with the idea.

And if it was late at night, then I don't see the problem.

Anyway, where was it? I live right off Reseda Blvd, was that in the park at Victory blvd?

It was at a banquet hall on Sherman Way, apparently Eli Roth was tending bar

I would like to go see Superbad, but it does not appear to be showing at the Arclight on it's opening weekend. Anyone have a suggestion on an alternate theatre for a Superbad get together?
I don't think we'll really know where it's going to be playing until next Monday or Tuesday (some theaters don't post info until Thursday). I think it would be better to try for someplace that has assigned seating (The Arclight, The Landmark, The Bridge) so there's no rush before the movie and we can meet & greet.
However, I'm really not that picky.
Last Monday Goonies and Back to the Future played at the New Beverly. I wish I had known about it before yesterday. I went to the same thing last year.
If The Landmark is chosen, there are plenty of great restaurants thereabouts where Chewers can convene. Torafuku is pretty fucking good, for starters.
Can we get a number of people who might potentialy attend?

Sure. Please RSVP to this thread for going to see Superbad on opening weekend at The Landmark (assuming it's playing).

I assuming that since most people work on Fridays, that Saturday might be better, but in your RSVP you can put any time, day, and restaurant preference.

SUPERBAD, Weekend of 17-19 August, The Landmark
1. Valeri (aka Belethedheliel); Sat > Sun > Fri; evening > matinee; no idea about restaruants so it's all good to me.

4. Dan (aka ZappBrannigan); Sat > Sun > Fri; evening = matinee; I love La Serenata, but I can eat anywhere (hopefully somewhere that serves alcohol). My wife will probably come along, too.
I love how things are started to come together. Now if only we could get a grindhouse-esque trailer created to represent the LA Chewers and their gathering.
Smilin' Jack is going?! This shit just got real.
My wife has a poker night (and already saw the movie many moons ago), so I have but a single evening of sweet, sweet freedom before being chained back up to this keyboard at the stroke of midnight.
I'm nobody, yet still interested in a meet-up, so as long as it's not on Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday I'm totally in. Night classes are a bitch.
I'm only interested if Valeri and Zapp's wife are hot and promise to make out with each other.

What makes you think Superbad is even playing at the Landmark? I looked at Advanced ticketing for August 17th and it didn't show it.
Let's calm down and wait til we get further info. I mean is Advanced Ticketing reliable? Also what other theaters in that area would have that movie? Besides, if it's not, there can always be Shoot'em Up.
I just got off the phone with someone at The Landmark and he said they are not yet booked for Superbad, so they probably won't be getting it. So then I called The Bridge and the operator there said they would be getting it, but wouldn't know until Wednesday evening if it would be showing in one of the Director's Halls, which are the only theaters with assigned seating.

This movie is going to be showing everywhere, so I know we won't have a problem finding a place, but if we go to a regular theater on opening weekend we'll probably all have to get there early and stand in line to avoid sitting in shitty seats. I am not opposed to this, and there are a lot of really nice theaters in LA that don't have assigned seats. In my neighborhood there is the Culver City Pacific 12, which I can almost guarantee will be showing it. There is also The Grove, which I hate because of the masses of people and the terrible, terrible parking, but the food options are really good, especially if the Farmer's Market is still open. I also know there are some nice theaters in the valley, like Winnetka.

And yes, if this doesn't look like it's gonna work (but I really hope it does), we can push it back to 9/7 for Shoot 'Em Up.

I guess that brings up another question (sorry):
Regarless of what we pick and where, do we want to shoot for a earlier showing and eat after or eat first and then go to a later showing?
Getting together for food might make things easier because we'll hang out for a bit. The Winnetka is a good suggestion (Since I live in the valley) although there's nothing to eat around there.

My question is, why not the Arclight in Hollywood?

Now why did the Sherman Oaks Pacific have to shut down now to start becoming an Arclight? They couldn't wait just one more week?

The Arclight is awesome in that their website shows weeks in advance what movies they will be showing there.

The Invasion
