The Blob (1988)

The Moral of this Story: If you try to cop a feel of a dead girl's breasts, you WILL get your just (gelatin) desserts.

Great movie, another example why the 80's were the best times to be a make-up effects artist in horror.

This movie was so much better than we had any right to expect. Although, after the one-two punch of The Thing and The Fly remakes, maybe we should have. It's one of the best examples of taking a concept that was too wild for the original's effects technology, and running with it.

This is the thing that has me most excited about The Mist.

Fans of the original will descend upon Phoenixville PA for the annual Blobfest this weekend...

Fantastic film....Shawnee Smith in her cute days, fantastic kills, and the breaking of several taboos. The child deaths definitely put it over the top for 80's horror must-sees.

Fantastic film. My all time favourite kitchen sink death. My memory is a bit shaky but I remember towards the end in the sewer some kid getting more or less dissolved as he was trying to break free of the Blob's glutenous clutches.
I've been waiting for them to remake this going down the CG Blob route for a while now.

I can't decide who I want to quote the most. . . you're all SO fucking on the money! I was terrified of the Blob when I was a kid, so sitting thru this flim (Which didn't come out so long after I stopped being a kid) was an effort for me, but one which was ultimately worth it for all the reasons cited above. The quartherback kill, where he tries to scrream as the blob's devouring him, and his arm just kinda breaks off. . . that's gotta be one of the best horror kills EVER!

Love, love, love this movie. The scene where the waitress is trapped in the phone booth, calling the Sheriff...and then she sees the Sheriff inside the Blob?

PERFECT.

Favorite: Joe Seneca with the Blob inside his environment suit

Great movie. I just saw my dvd of it not to long ago. What a great gruesome update by Chuck Russell and Frank Darabont. Lot's of kills that use awesome practical effects that put cgi to shame. I mentioned it in another thread here, but I just love how they set up the quarterback as the lead, only to have him absorbed. That scream he does is freaky. Also of note is Jack Nance as the doctor there in the clinic.

Love the Phone booth kill
Love the Disposal Kill
Love the Black guy getting it through the suit kill
Love the Blob slapping down on White Suit guy kill
However, the kill when the sheriff gets broken in half is fucking phenomenal!

This was one of those gotta see it cause it looks cool in fangoria movies from when I was a kid and wanted to be Tommy Jarvis!

Yep, that's Paul McCrane--the master of the awesome death scene. He went on to become Emil the toxic waste splattering across Clarence's windshield in Robocop.

http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0005204/

In addition, he was the first character to die by having a flaming helicopter dropped on his head on tv's ER. He was also Jack Bauer's evil brother on last season's 24.

Not bad for a guy that started off in Fame as a dancing high school student, eh?

"When, Hammerhead, when?"

"Soon. The Lord will give me a sign."

This is less than 30min. from my usual stomping grounds. I went last year and had a lot of fun. I wanted to go again this year just to see the tinfoil hat competition, but sadly family matters required me to be out of state that weekend. Hopefully they’ll do the hat competition again next year.
