Who here has seen it? I ask because I want to see it very, very much.

Yes, I saw it on TV as a kid long ago and it freaked the hell out of me, especially the ending. Now I suppose it would seem silly. Or not?

Read the various external reviews on imdb. From what I hear it's up there with Gojira.

I saw it as a kid twenty some years ago and was scared silly by it. Then I rented it from Netflix last year and it still holds up. The DVD has both the Japanese version and the U.S. version, and they are two different movies really.

It has a great mood to it and the use of color is fantastic. It also still has some great, creepy moments that stand up really well. Trust me, rent it and after one viewing you'll end up owning it!

I'm considering just buying it and then owning it.

I bought it blindly and was not disappointed. Simultaneously creepy/silly. If you like classic Japanese sci-fi (and all that genre entails) you really can't go wrong.

Like Mal the esteemed Mr. Wood above, I was a kid when I saw this on late night television (shout out to Chiller Theater's own Ned the Dead, the man responsible for my love of shitty b-movies), and it scared the ever-loving crap out of me. That was about 20 years ago, though and I haven't seen it since. Now that it's on DVD, I've been meaning to revisit it, just to see if it's actually any good. I remember it being really surreal and creepy.

I think the film probably plays better (scarier) in Japanese, but the English trailer is quite amusing:

I revisited this recently after being reminded of it by the "42nd Street Forever" trailer collection. Not quite the same kick as seeing it when I was 8, but worth returning to to see through an adult's eyes. Sort of a Japanese homage to "Lifeboat" with a nifty creeping horror twist tossed in. It drags quite a bit in the middle, but the eventual "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" vibe makes it more than worth a rental.
