Frank Langella has signed on to appear in Oliver Stone’s Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps, according to Variety. The actor will be playing Lewis Zabel, an old-time broker who mentors LaBeouf’s character, a
young Wall Street broker. The mentor’s fate plays a major part in the
film’s plot.
That sounds like he dies. And it sounds like he’s teaching Shia LaBeouf the sort of goody goody brokering that Gordon Gekko, played by returning star Michael Douglas, can’t stand. Actually, let’s say that it sounds more than ‘like’ he dies – he definitely dies, according to the IMDB Pro synopsis of the movie: As the global economy teeters on the brink of disaster, a young Wall Street trader partners with disgraced former Wall Street corporate raider Gordon Gekko on a two-tiered mission: To alert the financial community to the coming doom, and to find out who was responsible for the death of the young trader’s mentor.
If you didn’t know that Oliver Stone was involved with this, that would sound like the plot of a completely shitty made for cable thriller. Of course Oliver Stone being involved doesn’t give one the confidence it gave a few years back. Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps starts shooting this month, so here’s hoping we soon see elements that convince us that Stone is back up to his old tricks.
