About two months ago this was shooting about two blocks away from my place. I couldn't believe it either.

I assume this means I'll also be able to rent The Asylum's adaptation of "Howard Huge" on Blu-Ray about one week before this comes out, right?

I know it's been around for forever, but Marmaduke doesn't have the name recognition Garfield does. Maybe it doesn't matter, and people will flock to anything with a talking cat or dog.

Did the dog ever talk in the comics? I just don't recall that he did. Maybe he'll have internal monologue?

Omitted by Renn and somehow lost within that THR article is the fact that Tom Showtime Dey is directing this. A man of such pure and unadulterated talent that I always wonder why he constantly evades being ranked alongside the Robbins and Levys of the world in those Hollywood's Hackiest Hacks lists.

Can a $100 million remake of C*H*O*M*P*S be very far behind?

Dunno, but remember next year brings also the sequel to Cats & Dogs (a movie I genuinely like, BTW).

Also, to all pet owners with some intention of watching the upcoming remake of Hachiko, beware. The flick -or at least what I could endure- is as solid as you could expect from a Joan Allen-Blake Lively-Richard Gere (yeah, in that order) starring Hallmark MotW directed by Lasse Hallstrom. But once the heartstrings get pulled, it gets pretty devastating. Very few times I've seen so many adults walking out of a screening puffy-eyed and sobbing (other than at that Cheech & Chong marathon).

So I take it this is going to be more like Irreversible than Garfield. There's a whole lot of rapin' in this strip.

This news got Devin so upset that he quit writing in mid-sentence:

What must it be like to sign to be the voice of fucking Marmaduke the dog in a big screen adaptation of that formless, jokeless, endless comic strip? I mean, it must feel good to sign on the back of the check you get for the gig, but Jesus H. Christ, can you imagine how empty you must be inside to agree to do a job like this?

Enter Owen Wilson: possibly cleaned up and off drugs, definitely not attempting suicide at this particular moment in time, he's making a play for some big o

I'm operating under the assumption that Owen Wilson kicked down the door to his apartment and punched him in the face right when he was typing that out.

I get the feeling that he just realized Renn had posted a similar story. Its either that, or Owen Wilson is a sex fiend in search of one big massive orgasm.

As for this story, I like dogs as much as the next person (in fact, probably more than the next person). I currently have two (My Corgi and my Pup). With that said, I saw the first and last dog movie I ever needed to see when I was 3. Milo and Otis (I know, I know, one of them is a cat) said about all there is to say on the subject of dogs in film.

I've found the success of "Marley" and "BH:C" rather distressing, and it looks like we're in for more of the same.... ::sighs::

PS I can perhaps understand Owen's thinking on this. When I'm feeling really down, I tend to be less interested in good films. I feel like they're wasted on me when I'm in a bad mood. I usually stick with things I've seen a million times before when I'm depressed. Same must go for Mr Wilson. Why throw himself into a really challenging part when he can just do some VO work, collect the check, and go back to sleep.

Funny article. I know why those [s's] are there, but it would've been even funnier if they weren't and that statement actually read like that. It'd almost be like an excerpt from the pitch meeting delivered by a very efficient, probably angry speaker:

Marmaduke overcome physical obstacles that represent psychological hurdles. Marmaduke get his dream girl. Marmaduke overcome a fall from grace.

By the way, I couldn't help but notice The Shaggy Dog escaped your claws, Renn? Coincidence, or has a secret Tim Allen fondness just been revealed?
