The comic (like Wanted) wasnt even passable as far as im concerned, but the movie does pick my interest.
Also, I cant wait for the idiot to get inspired by this and gets arrested/killed/raped as he make his debut.

They make it pretty clear that putting on a costume is a pretty good recipe for getting the shit beaten out of you, so I wouldn't worry too much about copycats or imitators.

And I don't want to say too much because, yeah, it's easy to overhype these things, but this was my favorite movie I've seen all year.

Some idiots never learn...they'll go "I could do it better because im smarter than that" (you're not).
And glad to hear you loved it; looking forward to it.
I assume you cant tell how much it differs from the comic?

I'll probably assume you saw Inglorious Basterds, The Hurt Locker Up, Moon and District 9.

And if so, damn.

I only read half an issue of the comic, so plot-wise, not really. The big ideas and some of the set-pieces felt like they were taken from the comic book, but the humor and heart (and this is a very, very funny movie) felt like they were all Vaughn and his co-writer.

I haven't paid much attention to the development of this movie, but after recently seeing Stardust again and loving it even more, I'm definitely gonna see this.

Great to hear that Vaughn has a creative hit on his hands. But I'm getting so skeptical of hype these days. Slater saying it's his favorite of the year might say more about his tastes than it does the film itself.

High praise for a recent Nic Cage feature. My curiosity is piqued further.

Layercake is one of my favorite films of 2004 (Alexander tops that list). Sign me up for any future films from the maestro behind that epic work of British crime fiction. That Claire Danes movie proved he is a talent and 'Cake' wasn't a fluke

With that said, this is the third poster I'm commenting on today. While it may be the best of the bunch, it's far from original. Sort of like a daytime version of that iconic Dark Knight poster:

Edit: "That Claire Danes movie" = Stardust

The trailer is out in 8 days, I'm looking forward to it. Even though I believe that I might be the only one on the forums still reading the comic. And I mean STILL cause it's taking about 3 months for a single issue to come out.

And Kate, rarely do we ever see an "original" movie poster. Well, for a big release that is.

Heh, as if I think you gave a fuck. Just reminding myself (and others) that this is one guy's opinion. As in, I respect your opinion but I've disagreed with it in the past. Chances are that I'll dig the shit out of it.

It's great that the film is getting so much positive hype already, but I'll leave the buzz aside (even though it's very encouraging) and see the film because of Vaughn. Loved Layer Cake and Stardust both, so it's only natural that I'm excited to see what else he can show us.

So...what, exactly, is the premise of the comic? Because I thought the original idea was that it was about a teenage dork who puts on a costume and tries to be a superhero, but it's set in essentially the "real" world, so he just gets beat up a lot...kind of like a more realistic version of The Tick (the original comic). But then I started hearing all these weird things about ninjas and little girl assassins, or something, and the movie seems to have a lot of that kind of weirdness as well. So...it's just a humorous superhero movie?

It starts as a pathetic loser teen putting a costume and training to fight crime because he's bored with his mediocre life...his first attempt ends up in failure and massive injuries, the second is effective by sheer dumb luck...and then a ten yearl old ninja girl slaughters a room full of people just like that.
Thats when i stopped reading it and wished Romita Jr was working on a better book.

Ahhh, Jane Goldman. Good screenwriter, AND insanely hot. Geek worship awaits.

I disagree with your assessment of the comic, as I found it really entertaining. Romita Jr's art is fun, the story is crazy and gets crazier the more you read. I don't think it had very much to say other than "hey this is a fun idea let's run with it", as the humour is everywhere. The book definitely does not take itself seriously, so I don't.

Having said that, after reading the latest 2 issues of the comic, I am curious as fuck about how the film will end. Especially given the film was in post before those issues came out. I haven't been following the film production that closely, did they have Mark Millar consulting on the script at all?

Millar was involved every step of the way and was on set for a lot of it. My understanding is, he gave them everything they needed to know.

It's like an all audiences version of the first issue that I barely got through. But I look forward to seeing some of the good stuff that Vaughn supposedly added in.
