I only recently finished the game on Hardened and that's not too bad. Though I'm not going to try it in Veteran.
There's a fine line between challenging and pure utter frustration and there were several parts in the game in Harden that already toe that line.

It's do-able but it's just not going to be fun in the end.

Even on veteran, there's no need to rush that level. It's completely triggered by your location. As long as you can stand your teammates constantly telling you the same things over and over, and it's not one of the rare 'timed' levels, there's zero reason to rush in this game. As Farsight said, it's 100% about cover and taking it slow.

Spec Ops has been way harder on veteran than the single player, but I think that's mostly due to the increased fuck-up odds of having two human players. I'm struggling with the level in Echo that makes you kill 10 juggernaughts with only explosives and your knife. Fuck that level.

One of the things about the game that really bother me is the complete lack of orientation to the levels. The most complete (IMO) level in COD4 was the ship assault, when you get an aerial overview of the place as well as somewhat useful satellite data before boarding it. That, and the fact that insertion and extraction methods are obvious gives the player at least a cursory idea of what they're getting themselves into. Most of the stuff during the MW2 load times is just telling you about the weapons and gadgets you can use, with practically no exposition other than some vague speechifying. Hell, if you could spend just 2-3 minutes with a pair of binoculars or a damn map before each mission, it would give you a better idea of the level. Which would result in less following (it always bothers me that NPCs know exactly where to go, like some omniscient being), and less aimless wandering just asking to get shot.

And dropping you into the middle of a firefight? Laziest storytelling ever. It sucked when CoD2 did it, it was great that CoD4 avoided it, and I facepalmed when MW2 did it for the airplane graveyard level.

Also, the dinghy level at the end was done before (and done better) in Half Life 2.

For what little it's worth, the XBOX game Black had a Rock-themed two-level bathroom shootout back in 2005. And it was awesome then as well.

Thank you. I was coming in here for the sole purpose of mentioning that game.

Eventually, I know this game will be in my collection, but I can't help it, I'm a single player guy, first and foremost, and while supposedly good, every review has confirmed I'll be disappointed when I'm only able to wring 6 or 7 hours out of it.

I'm really surprised so many people like the campaign. I am loathing it, and this is coming from someone who really enjoyed the campaigns for COD4MWBBQ, COD2, and CODWAW.

True. But not you, Justin. I could never hate you. Or Trevor.

It's distinctly weaker than any other Call of Duty campaign. Well, maybe not World at War, but at least that had the awesome grass burning flamethrower mechanics. This one rips off everything from the last installment and doesn't do it as well. If only they let you do co-op and, I don't know, let you figure out your own way through a level? Imagine that.

Who knew that warfare involved running through narrowly defined little paths with no ability to conceive an independent strategy and try to execute it.

WAW had co-op=saving grace.

**multiplayer is actually significantly more compelling, which, within the framework of how the game wants multiplayer to work, I didn't think was really possible.
