I generally don't do box-office predictions, but I think this'll do over $200 million as well. It doesn't need to be good. It just needs to play.

Why anyone watch boring, lame-ass vampires this weekend, when they could watch The Rock play an goofy astronaut, trapped on a distant planet is beyond me

If it's really bad, it hurts Ecclipse's B.O. but not its own, right?

I feel like you've used that Goin' Back To Cali joint before, but I may be crazy.

I hope you're happy that I can't listen to One More Chance without turning every fucking line into a B.O. Prediction headline. (Honeys call me Della, the Box office fillah) It's like some wonderful pun virus.

Well it pulled 23-24 at midnight last night so I would say it's probably not 10 too high unless 30% of its business for the weekend came last night.

I wouldn't be terribly surprised to see this thing clear $300 mil.

Again, the number will probably be $100 this weekend. I was going low on purpose, but also, this is a front loaded thing, though it's possible some fans will go 5x this weekend.

My advice: if the seat looks wet, try another.

The lowest it can do this weekend with that midnight number is 115, and that's factoring in 50% Saturday and Sunday drops.

(Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows this time next year is going to be a friggin' beast.)

Yea 300 is not going to happen. 100 this weekend means over 200 is pretty certain but I still would be surprised if it gets to 250. Still Summit is rolling in cash either way and will be again this time next year.

Movie's huge, could do TDK opening weekend numbers. Even with the holidays, next week's falloff will be huge as well.

I can't imagine there are enough 12-28 year old women to get the number that high. Unless there are actually large groups of men going to see this as well?

*cough* TITANIC *cough*

The tale will be told next weekend. My guess is that Friday is the biggest number. This will be on DVD by April-ish, it all depends.

but Titanic had epic explosions. Plus moms and grandma would go to Titanic. I can't see older women flocking to Twilight, but I could be wrong

Well, yeah. That's not in any sort of doubt. Twilight dropped 40% between Friday and Saturday, and this has a much bigger rush factor.

I doubt it even manages a 2x multiplier over the weekend.

Core audience of Titanic: 12-28 year old women. There's Twilight Moms as well. Not a big deal, I'm just saying.

That's the question, of course. How front loaded is it? Could it do 70% less on Sunday than it did on Friday? Of course it could.

Apparently it was at $50m by 5 p.m. If that number's accurate, a $70m Friday is in play.

80 M Friday! But from this point on... it'll be free falling.

The Blind Side apparently did over 11 M on Friday. Wow, who knew? I guess spillover really does work.

After the huge opening of this, Pattinson's Remember Me is gonna EXPLODE!!!!

What you say, Dre? I didn't hear a word you said...

EDIT: Going along with everything you said, it's good to have movies like this break all sorts of box office records. It's a total slap in the face of those who would use the 'made lots of money so people like it' as a gauge of a movie's relative quality.

Twilight 2 is going to make over 125$ MILLION DOLLARS opening weekend? For crying out loud...

I feel like Calvin in that C+H strip where the world suddenly loses all dimension and perspective, and it's impossible to judge distances or relative sizes. Twilight is almost as big as TDK? I'm going to set up a transmogrifier and turn into a rock, so that my brain will no longer ache from thinking about this terrible news

It's not just my inner geek, it's my inner feminist and my inner anti-mormon that is upset with the success of this retarded series of books (and now movie-films!)

I really am looking forward to Saturday, not because I want the film to fail, but because it'll show what kind of frontloading we're looking at. Twilight dropped 40% on its first Saturday but still managed a pretty decent 2.7 overall multiplier.

What horrifies me about these numbers is they indicate that tons of people saw TWILIGHT on DVD and loved it. That the fanbase continues to grow.

I eagerly await the reasoning from the Batman adherents as to why this number isn't as impressive as Dark Knight's.

Cameron's probably puzzled why people aren't already camped out for AVATAR tickets.

Maybe they'll have strokes and I can enjoy that movie again? Or even better, they all commit murder/suicides with the idiots that don't think Fight Club is homoerotic.

Though the best case scenario would be that overzealous fans the world over will look at these people, see themselves, and change their ways out of pure terror. Because that's how people work, right?

For what it's worth (maybe nothing), I dropped my daughter off this morning at a large free-standing theatre to see New Moon; we got there at 10:30 for an 11:15 show and there was literally no one there except the box office staff.

Maybe I'm just used to there always being a queue for any movie hereabouts, but that surprised me.
