Default Primeval (UK dino sci-fi series)

Anyone heard of this current UK series?

Official site.

ITV's Official site.

imdb page.

Appears to be a JURASSIC PARK style show (or SOUND OF THUNDER or SciFi Original, depending on your background/tolerance) with decent "Walking With Dinos" quality effects.

I happened upon some clips on youtube, and now my curiosity is peaked.

Mosasaurs? Giant centipedes and spiders? Creatures evolved from the future? How can I check out this show??? My standards are notoriously low in the Rampaging Creature and Lost World arenas.

Can any British Chewers weigh in on this?

EDIT: It appears that atleast Series 1 & 2 are on DVD in that Region 2 (guess I'll need a Region-Free player, and there's also action figures as well:

From Wikipedia:

ITV previously produced Prehistoric Park, a programme with the similar premise of the main characters travelling back to the time of the dinosaurs (and even earlier).

Primeval debuts in the States on USA BBC America: August 2008

Looks terrible. Like Torchwood with dinosaurs.

Didn't a show like this run on ABC for a while? Dinotopia?

It's not bad. A cheesy monster of the week type show. I haven't watched Torchwood, so I can't say that they are the same. Don't expect too much and you should be OK.

Yep. That one was a bit more Verne-ian fantasy (based on a children's book).

This series looks more like SURFACE... more Alten/Bradbury/Crichton/Benchley.

"With dinosaurs" is usually an ingredient for success. Unless you're Whoopi Goldberg.

Don't bother.

I Watched the first three eppisodes and gave up. It pretty much rips off every single scifi/fantasy show of the last ten years.

It was ITV's response to the popularity of Dr Who and its not even in the same class.

I appreciate the warnings, but I'm a guy who:

1. Watched the SciFi Original MAMMOTH
2. Is looking forward to the LAND OF THE LOST movie.

I'll keep my expectations (and low standards) in check...

"Mammoth" had Vincent Ventresca, Summer Glau, and Tom Skerritt fighting a zombie mammoth with vampiric powers. And it's tongue was planted so firmly in cheek that it nearly gave itself a Glasgow smile. "Primeval" appears to have a bunch of British soap opera actors being deadly serious about having poorly composited run ins with dinosaurs.

Mammoth wins on casting alone.

No seriously, it's fucking terrible. It's the worst thing to involved Dinosaurs since the Super Mario Bros. movie. As Ken said it was ITV's desperate attempt to retake some ratings after Doctor Who came and cleaned house and it was a pretty much a disaster.

Season 3 is running on BBCAmerica right now. First 3 episodes have aired and are available on demand.

I just started watching and I'm hooked. Now I've got to back track and watch old episodes on Sci-Fi.

Please feel free to share your love or hate for this show, but no spoilers for Season 3 from the other side of the pond.

This is my new favorite summer show.

Still loving this show. The cast is great and Connor is easily a fan favorite. As the series stands on BBCAmerica, I'm thinking the main character will come back by the end of the year. His death was too weak and I'm sure some anomoly will bring him back to the fold.

The finale was pretty good. It was quite a cliffhanger though and ashame it was cancelled. I can only hope they continue with the movie.

actually I think it comes out in september. Best Buy's website shows this:

Primeval 2: 3 disc

I'm pretty sure this is the BBC series and not the horror movie.
