I don’t play a lot of video games, but I’ll definitely be playing this.

Looks like it might actually have some element of fun, as opposed to the drudgery of IV. And they seem to have included colors other than gray and slightly lighter gray, so that’s good.

Spring cannot get here quick enough.

Looks amazing. My only complaint…aren’t there any other cities that are worth parodying other than LA and New York. Let’s get some Chicago or even an international city(London? Tokyo?) in on the action.

GTA is far too tied into the “ugly americans” mindset to ever really work in any other country. I mean you can parody the other pitfalls, excesses, and prejudices of other cultures but it just wouldn’t feel like Grand Theft Auto.

The answer is “no.”

Bummed that the “friends” system is gone. Not happy if this game supports “multiple leads” or whatever. I don’t see the point in widening the world yet restricting the connections between the characters that exist in that world. Sleeping with various women is something we all do, however; we weren’t able to do it in Red Dead (understandably) or LA Noire. I think removing the “romance” aspect is stupid, too. Regardless, GTA is one of my favorite franchises of all-time, so, I’ll be there to see where this goes.

Wow Robert, I was convinced NO ONE liked those features. I don’t want constant text messages from needy “friends” who want me to drive across town to shoot darts or watch them stumble around drunk. That gets tired after one time. And the romance aspect does nothing for me. I’ll stick to reality when it comes to dates, thanks.
To each his own, but I just don’t get it. Those aspects drove me nuts and sucked the fun out of the game.

Loved hearing Argyle’s song from Die Hard in the trailer. I hope that’s a good indicator of how great the action in it will be.

It helps ground the world in reality for me. Having a cell phone to receive missions only or receive plot points seems archaic at best. Sleeping Dogs didn’t make use of its cell phone system nearly well enough, and I fear this will be the same way. I like the interactions between Niko, Luis and everyone in GTA IV. More content and time spend with characters “bonding” or going on dates allows us more insight into the character between missions where you’re just mowing guys down with a fancy machine gun. I think all that stuff added especially nicely to what Niko’s narrative was, with the general consent that his discovery of American women being crazy for the most part (except Kate McCreary, of course). Reading Alex Chilton’s blog after she has sex with Niko is both an interesting game mechanic and another glimpse into the lives of the NPCs. More Houser character development is always a good thing.

I don’t mean to go crazy or try to convince you why those features were relevant or interesting, believe me, I know people who hated them, but at the same time, I’ve studied and written so much about GTA IV over the years, it’s really unbelievable. I’d love to share it on here, maybe on a CHUD blog or something, I don’t know. I’ve analyzed games and their worlds before for other sites, but none as in-depth as GTA IV, oddly enough. Bully, maybe, but GTA IV edges it out in terms of how much I’ve spoken about it on panels and on my podcast.
