Today Lionsgate released the motion poster for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, which will slink into theatres November, 22nd 2013. That seems like lifetime for a sequel to a successful book adaptation these days.
I got some enjoyment out of the first film, though it felt flat in stretches. This sequel sees Francis Lawrence (I Am Legend) subbing in for director Gary Ross, who left due to the dreaded “scheduling conflicts.” I guess we’re supposed to gather from this image that the flaming mocking jay, once confined, is now taking flight. If the last film didn’t do it for you, neither will this motion poster internationale:

I have a friend in his 30’s who has read all of these books, but when I prod him to take 2 hours of his time and watch the original The Thing, he has zero interest. I don’t know what that means, just that, yeah, I have no interest in these movies.
The obvious takeaway there is that folks that love reading the Hunger Games books and folks that like the original Thing don’t necessarily match up. Otherwise, not sure what your point is.
It means he likes books but not film adaptations and that is ok. I liked both for what they were. I enjoyed the books more be cause there is obviously more so I can understand his reluctance to see the movies. I am not the type of film watcher that needs every thing in the film from the book. But for the life of me I do not understand how a film maker can make a tiny book like the Hobbit a 3 film affair except for the $$$$.
The original is my favorite. Though I’ll watch anything with James Arness. Most people prefer the remake but give me some 50s sci-fi any day.
