I don’t know what’s going down in the trailer for Upstream Color but it scares me a little and excites me a lot. We just recently reported the happy news that Upstream Color would debut at Sundance next January, after breaking the news of the film existing in the first place earlier this year.
The first trailer for the film has hit the web today, and it is sharp and ominous in all the ways one might hope and expect from Shane Carruth’s follow up to Primer. This looks like a very intimate little apocalypse, and shots of odd amoebic compositions and a dude chopping down a tree have never seemed scarier.
Don’t think for a second we won’t be covering this one step by step, so keep an eye out.

God Damn you, Shane Carruth. And what the fuck is that blue stuff?
It looks like a movie. Let’s not blow come all over the best just yet.
Sure I’m looking forward to this. But really, the dude cutting down the tree looks like…a dude cutting down a tree. Blue stuff swirling around looks like…you get the idea. Let’s all keep save our jizz for the time being and stop acting like a hipster convention.
I am intrigued, but yeah, still going to hold out on the total excitement for a bit. That said, really got some high hopes for this one. Could go either way.
That said, I just rewatched the Primer trailer, and that one was actually a lot like this one: a few tantalizing shots, bare minimum dialogue, and no concrete indication of what the movie is actually about. And look how that turned out

That blue Time Jizz looks pretty cool though (Blue means it’s coming towards you).
If you people consider THAT up there to be me ejaculating all over a movie, you are way underestimating the potential force of my noise.
I think you’re filling in a lot of gaps of your own expectations of hyperbole, which is why I roll my eyes when the inevitable “you can only like this movie EXACTLY AS MUCH AS I DEEM APPROPRIATE” and “it’s your fault for overhyping” backlash hits. Off to a great start.
