Director Richard Loncraine obviously liked working with his pasty Wimbledon star Paul Bettany, as he’s following the striking British thesp to his next project and taking over the vacated chair on the Harrison Ford action-thriller The Wrong Element. Which I always thought was cobalt.
In the flick, Ford plays a bank security honcho who is coerced into breaking through his own system and swiping a load of cash in order to rescue his kidnapped family. Bettany, who realistically should be a much bigger star, will play the manipulative bastard with the bad case of greed.
Loncraine, better known for helming chatty period films like Brimstone & Treacle and Ian McKellan’s Richard III holofoil variant, gained a bit of action experience shooting the chaotic second episode of Band of Brothers, which involved both the D-Day paratrooper nightmare and Easy Company’s vital obliteration of German artillery.
The Wrong Element was originally to be directed by Mark Pellington (of the underappreciated Arlington Road and The Mothman Prophecies), who had to bow out after the death of his wife.

I worshipped Steve Alten for finally resurrecting the giant shark novel and writing two sequels (the first of which sucked, but Primal Waters is bitchin) but I've had just about enough of the sensationalism, the pandering, the shameless self-promotion that defines all his announcements. Not that there's anything wrong with it, but it's handled with about as much grace as the dialogue in Domain.
He has some great plots but relies too heavily on sensationalism to cover for bland characters and excruciating dialogue. Too bad Nick dropped out of Meg, but I'm sorry to say, I don't think it will ever happen, much less be good
Alten is only blogging on this site just to plug his book. He gets front page coverage while other long standing supporters of CHUD get little to zero attention.

Department of Homeland Security Head Michael Chertoff has repeated the same warning he made last year – he is worried "earth shattering" terror events are likely to be carried out soon.
Once again, Chertoff provides no specific details, he simply reminds Americans that they need to remain afraid of phantom terrorists:
"If you're asking me what keeps me up at night or what I most worry about — in the short term, obviously, you worry about homegrown terrorists or somebody coming in with an explosive device or the kind of act of violence or terror that we've actually seen occasionally carried out in this country by people who are simply nuts or like a Timothy McVeigh." Chertoff told WTOP news.
"But in the longer run, in terms of something that would really be earth-shattering, the kinds of things I'm worried about are a nuclear or a dirty bomb attack or a nuclear or biological attack." Chertoff continued, citing the motive of toppling the already teetering US economy.

your novel soudns like a fun read, but it in the real world it's just conspciary theory bullshit. Yes, the US (and the rest of the world) needs oil. But Saddam Hussain and the rest of the middle east WANT TO SELL OIL. They MAKE A LOT OF MONEY FROM THE SALE OF OIL.
Their economies depend on it. Therefore there is no need to take over the mioddle east.
