Hi Oscar-Interested chewers! Below you’ll find the nominees highlight from among the lists of potential nominees. These lists are not absolutely exhaustive, but they’re damned close. I poured over a couple dozen predictions lists from people who know what they’re talking about, so if anyone anywhere has predicted it might end up with a nod, you’ll find it below. It would take something WAY left-field for it not to be included here. I also think it will be nice to have an immediate reference of what films were in play in each category, so the ones that miss out will stay after I’ve highlighted the nominees.
I’ll be adding commentary and other rundowns over the next little while, so keep refreshing!

• With his Argo producing nod, George Clooney has now broken the record for nominations in the most categories with 6 (Best Pic, Director, Actor, Supporting Actor, Original Screenplay, Adapted Screenplay)
• Daniel Day Lewis is 5th person nominated for portraying a president
• All 5 Supporting Actor nominees are former winners (for the first time ever)
• Alan Arkin’s first nomination was in 1966, making him the person with the longest span of time between 1st and last nominations
• Silver Linings Playbook is the first film since Reds (’81) to get nominations in all four acting categories, and only the 14th film to do so.
• Spielberg’s films have now accumulated 122 nominations. Only William Wyler has more with 127.
• Life Of Pi is among only four films to ever get nods in all 7 tech categories (along with Titanic, Master & Commander, and Hugo)

Academy Award-nominee Seth MacFarlane. Well that was unexpected!
Cloud Atlas deserved more than the technical nominations.
Agreed.
Seriously Chud. No score nomination for Dark Knight Rises? but you guys put one for Avengers which has one of the worst scores for a blockbuster in years. The deshi basara chant will be remembered for years. The intro score is worthy alone. And the Dark knight sound mixing was not good enough. And not putting Dark Knight’s cinematography, which is beautiful film. The beauty in Imax of the first Batman Bane fight was worth a nomination alone.
We based the possible nominees on research culled from countless sources. For better or worse…and whether fans like it or not…The Dark Knight Rises was viewed overall as a disappointment by the critical community. THAT is why it has landed on very few lists and garnered little awards attention. It has nothing to do with preferring Avengers or any kind of Marvel/DC rivalry. Wrong or right, critics warmed to Avengers and not TDKR.
I wasn’t talking about the movie. I was talking about the score, the music. Why would you guys put the Avengers score there instead of Dark knight? That’s what I’m getting at. I’m guessing terrible musical taste.
Because not a single Oscar pundit of note put it forward as a potential, and I assembled this at 3 in the morning, so tossing TDKR in their to assuage fanboy gried (as I probably otherwise would have) didn’t occur to me.
You do realize that TDKR actually IS listed under Score above, right? And that neither it nor Avengers actually got a nomination?
Skyfall was a fun movie, but no way did it deserve to be nominated for best picture as you suggested.

I really think The Master deserved a best picture nomination. There are ten possible nominees and they’ve listed nine. Only in a town run by Scientologists…
The Oscars should give up on cinematography awards. Just take a look at this and last year. The Tree of Life lost, and The Master wasn’t even nominated.
You have SKYFALL listed instead of THE HOBBIT for Production design.
