This really pales in comparison to that fancifully solid trailer Marvel unleashed yesterday, but here’s the latest poster for Iron Man 3, courtesy of the film’s Facebook page.
Tony’s latest suit is looking worse for wear here, but the poster’s one substantial contribution to the conversation may be its look at the inner components of his brand new Extremis armor*. Tony’s battle-damaged left arm seems to further the notion that Mr. Stark takes a real pounding here. The piece also continues a trend that’s seen Gwyneth Paltrow’s Pepper Potts figure prominently into the marketing for the film, more so than previous films. The trailers try to intimate that Potts’ survival here is not guaranteed and, while I don’t see her meeting a Rachel Dawes-like demise, I suspect a damsel in need of a good R.E.S.C.U.E.

*That sentence betrays my adulthood in every sense of the word.

Paltrow looks like Dunst in that picture. And I hate that RDJ’s head is obviously (and somewhat understandably) photoshopped into the suit. In fact, the heads look weird period. Paltrow looks like she is trying to do her best impression of a possessed Regan…
Sorry just woke up, is this move out yet? I can not wait until CHUD stops its endless fascination with all things Marvel and actually focuses on real films…that will probably never happen though.
I have a strong feeling she dies in this, and dies early. I think thats why there is such an emphasis on him protecting her in the advertising. Plus Stark’s line to the media about revenge. Why would he said that with such gusto for trashing his place? The Chitauri and Loki trashed his new building in The Avengers and he didn’t get overly personal.
What, are you mad that comic book geekdom has finally cracked the mainstream so we can see our obsessions in glorious high definition? Would you rather it be a Sundance blog? I mean shit, if you’re such a film nerd wouldn’t you be accustomed to other types of nerds by now? Don’t put down other people’s geekiness just because it conflicts with yours. There’s plenty of other content here, just most titles don’t have the mega marketing machine that Disney has, so there won’t be as much news as there would be with Marvel (they’re also cranking out movies at a faster clip than anyone else). This is an unprecedented phenomenon that happens to appeal to a huge and loyal fan base, so let us have our time in the sun, since, you know, comic book nerds have been looked down on since the dawn of comics and now people are realizing that, hey, these characters are fucking awesome. Besides, if we don’t have tolerance in the nerdosphere, what chance does it stand on a societal level?
Well, he is an Avenger.
Maouri’s our resident troll and comedically faux-intellectual village idiot. Pay him no mind.
Still transitioning from lurker and getting a feel for the boards. Thanks!
