It’s about time someone got up and made a movie about The Count of Monte Cristo. Especially a “Dark Knight” inspired one done with the panache and sizzle of Guy Ritchie’s incredibly mediocre Sherlock Holmes movies. At least there’s going to be a filmmaker of serious weight and coolness doing it, right?
David Goyer!
But at least there’ll be an amazing producer, right?
The guy who did the Resident Evil movies!
But doesn’t Guillermo del Toro have a long-gestating idea for a Monte Cristo movie he’s been dying to do and he’s worked with David Goyer on the Blade films. Is this a continuation of that idea?
Nope!
You guys enjoy David Goyer’s Monte Cristo movie, OK? THR has the whole story but really what more do you need to know?

No thanks, I think I’ll stick with the Kevin Reynolds one from 2002. That movie is an underappreciated gem.
I was actually rooting for Guy Pearce in that one. What a fucking dull cast.
I’ll just stick with Blood & Bone, thanks.
But will it feature a tagline as amazing as the 2002 version?” “COUNT…ON REVENGE!!!”
If this turns out as fun as Anderson’s Three Musketeers, then I’m down.
That said, I would certainly much rather see GDT’s gothic spaghetti western adaptation, Montecristo.
Del Toros one would have been great…but, this sounds banel…probably starring Channing Tatum
I adore that version. And in celebration, I’m gonna watch it again tonight….and again tomorrow morning.
Remaking 11 year old movies now, are we? Watch out for that Bad Company remake, starring Katt Williams and Christian Bale!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
