It’s almost like a hurrying intern showed up to the CBS offices, Riddick teaser tape in hand, and was politely informed the Super Bowl was several months ago.
The new Riddick teaser –which comes after many months of photo teases and Vin Diesel Faebooking– is quick, monster-filled, 30-second affair that has Riddick ominously advising someone not to let him back out. Between that are a few landscape and action shots, that don’t say much beyond, “this movie will be greenscreened as fuck.”
Don’t get me wrong, I’m excited for Riddick and this teaser excites me. It’s a tease in the purest sense though- I look forward to something more substantial between now and the film’s September 6th release.
Here’s the pitch:
The latest chapter of the groundbreaking saga that began with 2000′s hit sci-fi film Pitch Black and 2004′s The Chronicles of Riddick reunites writer/director David Twohy (A Perfect Getaway, The Fugitive) and star Vin Diesel (the Fast and Furious franchise, xXx). Diesel reprises his role as the antihero Riddick, a dangerous, escaped convict wanted by every bounty hunter in the known galaxy.
The infamous Riddick has been left for dead on a sun-scorched planet that appears to be lifeless. Soon, however, he finds himself fighting for survival against alien predators more lethal than any human he’s encountered. The only way off is for Riddick to activate an emergency beacon and alert mercenaries who rapidly descend to the planet in search of their bounty.
The first ship to arrive carries a new breed of merc, more lethal and violent, while the second is captained by a man whose pursuit of Riddick is more personal. With time running out and a storm on the horizon that no one could survive, his hunters won’t leave the planet without Riddick’s head as their trophy.

What’s with those man tits on Diesel in that final publicity still?
that is one akward picture.
Riddick – the movie nobody wanted or needed.
You have that confused with The Chronicles of Riddick. This looks like Pitch Black 2, which everybody needed.
Agreed.
Vin should play Captain America in the Rob Liefield movie reboot; ”Captain America: Wrongful Anatomy”.
They’ll have to cgi Diesel’s feet though. They’d need to be about a meter long and taper to a perfect point.
Not agreed.
“Groundbreaking” saga? I don’t think the person that wrote that blurb knows what that means. If they’re talking about the crater that was left by the bomb that was “Chronicles of Riddick”, sure, I guess you could call it groundbreaking. I had to look at his IMDB page to see what Twohy had to do with “The Fugitive”, and apparently he wrote/adapted it. It looks like a fluke compared to the rest of his resume. I recently caught “Pitch Black” for the first time in a while, and I really don’t understand the love…
They’d also need to digitally remove his ankles. Speaking of Liefeld, has anyone else seen that they put out an Omnibus of his New Mutants/X-Force stuff? It’s like a giant how-not-to-draw book. If you’re not a big fan of backgrounds, Liefeld’s the artist for you!
Haha like how the Facebook Icon makes it look like it’s saying “F Riddick!”
As long as i can actually follow the action scenes in this, then fine. I’ll watch it. The Chronicles Of Riddick was an overcut mess, and was barely memorable other than for its ridiculousness. While it’s impossible to tell from a 30 second teaser, I hope some of the style of Pitch Black has returned.
Jesus…is Riddick lactating?
So Riddick is a descendant of the Graboid? If that planet he is on is Venus, then he could be a “human” venus fly trap…I’ll stop now, before it gets worse…
He needs to be milked.
I wanted it.
