My God does this film look lush and rich with detail and passionate performances and interesting music. But I knew that already. I’m well past being sold to- I’m seeing the thing. All that remains is finding out if Luhrmann and company got too swallowed up in the spectacle and melodrama to capture the true spirit and nuance of the source material.
That Beyoncé / Andre 3000 track is cool though.
The film hits in a few days over a month, on May 10th.

Is Baz Lurhrman the most anachronistic filmmaker ever? I know he uses some period relevant music in his films, but enough with the modern pop shit already. It’s distracting in a movie where it’s so clearly out of place. I would assume there is a lot more soundtrack money to be made when you use uber-famous people that are still hot sellers today. That being said, I can’t deny that this looks pretty well made.
