I feel like it’s X3 all over again. Remember when that film was shaping up and we were reporting the addition of yet another actor playing yet another name brand mutant in that one? I was so baffled when some guy was announced as Madrox the Multiple Man. And while I may be alone in this one, the finished product wasn’t so overwhelmingly mutant-filled as to be unfollowable.
Take that to heart as more and more mutants are added to the cast of X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Or don’t since so many of these mutants are being played by ‘name’ actors: Dominic Monaghan has signed on to play a character named Barnell. That name seems to indicate he’ll be playing the birdlike mutant Beak, but Variety describes his character as having “the ability to manipulate energy and electricity.” Hurm.
Also added is some guy named Daniel Henney playing some character named Agent Zero. Here’s his Wiki – I stopped reading these comics long before most of these characters were introduced by second rate writers, so I can’t help you with this one.
So what the hell is X-Men Origins: Wolverine going to be like? Will these characters have real roles? Are these all a bunch of cameos, like in X3?

Ah come on, Devin. Give 'em a shot. You have a lot in common with those second-rate writers.

Right. Second rate writers like Grant Morrison and Gail Simone. Because dialogue, character, and interesting ideas are less important than the schlock Chris "let's all have a game of backyard baseball!" Claremont and Jim "it's cool if the characters have weird belts around their thighs" Lee wrote. You certainly have a good idea of what you're talking about. I absolutely don't wish you'd fall down a steep flight of stairs.
Without Chris Claremont, no one would know shit about the Xmen. It's entirely because of him, that they gained their popularity in the 80's and 90's. He did a terrible job writing the series after The Mutant Massacre and the writers after that were up and down.
Morrison is great. Jim Lee sucks. Gail Simone is embarassing to read.

Claremont was an innovator during his first tenure with the X-Men. Morrison is amazing on so many levels. Simone is a different writer from guys like Claremont and Morrison, but, equally enjoyable.
I think this is great. The more mutants, the merrier! I was afraid that this movie was JUST going to be Wolverine.
Grant Morrison is a second rate writer? The guy who wrote Seven Soldiers? What? Who wrote We3, Animal Man? What the fuck? And Claremont has done an incredible amount for comics, he made X-men Huge and also gave the books the view that superheroes can be cool rather than just campy.
Agent Zero = Maverick……………….and they should definitely go with "Maverick" as the name in the film. For one, it's the one most of the fans and casual fans know him by. Two, Agent Zero makes for a very bland and silly character codename. Anyway, looking at the current character roster, most of them make sense. Wolverine, Maverick (Agent Zero), Silver Fox, Sabretooth, Kestrel (Wraith), Deadpool, and Stryker are all apart of the Weapon X program in some fashion or another. Considering it is a main focus of the film, it makes sense for those mutants (and the human Stryker) to be included. Beak and Gambit, however, are not apart of it (at least in the comics) so I have no idea how they will fit into the mix. Same goes for The Blob (if he is indeed in the film).
Anyway, normally I'd cry foul with this many characters being introduced, but considering that they are covering Wolverine's history with Team X and the Weapon X program……….well, it's kinda called for. It's downright expected, actually.
I hated X3, and the way Wolverine is shaping up I'm growing more uninterested in it. What's the point of having so many damn mutant if your just using them for a cheap appearance pop?! I really do hope that Wolverine turns out to be one of the more decent superhero movies but if Hollywood history shows, its more likely that its going to go down in flames.
