Jackie Earl Haley is on a motherfuckin’ roll. After decades in the wilderness post-child stardom, he comes back with a great, Oscar nominated performance in Little Children. Then, thanks to the hard work of CHUD.com, he nails the role of Rorschach in Watchmen – easily one of the last truly great superhero roles out there. And now he’s working with Martin Scorsese.
Scorsese has added Haley to the cast of Shutter Island (which Empire had reported was being renamed Ashcliffe… guess not?) as a mental patient. Also crazy in the movie: Emily Mortimer (I’d give her some shock treatment, knowhutimean?). The third new cast member is Max von Sydow, who totally made me cry like a bitch in The Diving Bell and the Butterfly. He’s playing a psychiatrist on the titular island, which holds an insane asylum. When Leonardo DiCaprio and Mark Ruffalo go there to investigate a patient’s disappearance, they get trapped in a hurricane and inmate riot.
Shutter Island is based on the novel by Dennis Lehane, and will mark the 37th collaboration between Leo and Marty. The film starts shooting next week and I would murder everybody in my family for a chance to visit that set.

Can I just say I friggin' <i>hated</i> this book. And I like Dennis Lehane. A lot. Love his Kenzie-Gennaro books, loved Mystic River. Shutter Island, however, is poo. I can't get excited about this project, despite the talent involved.
I know this is based on Lehane's novel, but with casting in the article, including Von Sydow reprising his role as a psyschiatrist, it's starting to sound a bit like a Strange Brew remake; with Haley as Rosie La Rose and Emily as Pam. The only question is which McKenzie brother goes to DiCaprio. Stature-wise I'd peg him for Moranis in this situation. Hopefully, they don't CGI Wondermutt.

If we're getting into semantics, then we'll get into semantics. Men with female best friends, psychologically speaking, tend to be sexually well-adjusted. There. It's out there. These comments are heading in a weird direction.
I had a friend once who I hadn't seen in a very long time, and then we met and it turned out he had a sex change operation, and she was really hot, so now we're good friends, but every once in a while I think about hooking up with her.

Rigby, I actually liked this the most out of his books and Mystic River the least. he does need to get back to the kenzie-gennaro books soon though.
If this starts shooting next week, don't we imagine it will come out around December? By the way based on the Hurricane, I hope it's just two hours of the last 15 minutes of CAPE FEAR. Speaking of De Niro, as much as I love Von Sydow, that would have been a good role to sneak him into. And this they replace Kingsley?

I used to be a big fan of thefacer.net, back in the day (2003 ish). That was a great filmsite. Because it ripped the shit out of places like AICN and CHUD (to a lesser extent). It's a shame he ended his talent looking down the barrel of .45. Accidently too.
