Dark Horizons has 40 new pictures from Frank Miller’s The Spirit, and they’re… interesting. I’m not going to pass too much judgment on a green screen movie until I’ve seen the shots completed, but boy is Samuel L. Jackson’s The Octopus flamboyant. Flamingly so.
And why is The Spirit dressed in black? It looks like someone got The Shadow mixed in with their Eisner. Again, no judgment passed until I can see a fully rendered shot.
Please impress me, Miller. Especially after this…

Holy shit. That header plus those pics made me laugh out loud. I know it going to look better and most likely hell a cool after post production, but really, those pics aren't flattering.
Damn, I looked at these before going to bed… I suppose this was never going to be one of Mr. Jackson's more subtle performances, but…sheeeiiit. Talk about both barrels blazing.

As soon as I saw that first pic, I busted a gut laughing so hard.
Now I'm hearing Jackson do his "motherfucking snakes on this motherfucking plane" line with a flamboyant flourish.

Why would anyone be surprised that Frank Miller would "gay up" his villain? Homosexual men are obviously really scary and threatening to him. And I'm sure he doesn't mind that it doubles as a racial stereotype.
Although Sam Jackson is looking…odd in these pictures, some of the other pictures in the full gallery look pretty damn cool. Considering that The Spirit should be tongue-in-cheek and over-the-the-top, I think this may be the right direction.
It's nice to see Dan Lauria is still getting work, or is his career The Spirit. Plus all those ladies are finer than frog's hair.
How do they handle the green reflecting off the crome guns?

How many of us complaining here actually know what The Octopus (or whoever he is) looked like in the original comic books?
Darrell, that's just it: we never SAW him. He was like Dr. Claw in INSPECTOR GADGET; we only ever saw those gloves of his. So imagine Dr. Claw looking like Sam Jackson looked in those pictures, perhaps you can understand our feelings.
Oh, well yes, I suppose that does explain it.
