Son of Rambow opened strong in the UK this past weekend, so I’m wondering where’s all the discussion on our message board from the English readers. This isn’t just a good movie, it’s a great movie, and if you’re living in a country where you can see it now – what are you waiting for?
For the rest of you, Aint It Cool has scored an exclusive clip from the film. It’s a really great scene, one that captures the characters and the situation quite nicely. We shit on Goonies today in You Got It All Wrong, and Son of Rambow is the kind of movie Goonies could have been – about real childhood, not screaming and yelling and being a twit. It’s a really beautiful film, especially for movie lovers.

All this talk of realism in film reminds me of Patton Oswalt's bit about how reality television is going to create an inverse movement in independent filmmakers. Something to the effect that in twenty years, when everything is literally just real people living their lives, there will be indie filmmakers screaming about the lack of ninja vampires who tell nothing but poop jokes.

Saw this gem up at Sundance 07. It's as good as everyone says it is. As for that poster, it captures the earnest lightness of the film entirely.

Uh, last I checked.. that's pretty much what childhood is.. screaming, yelling, and being a twit. I have tapes of me and my friends as kids, and that's most of we did. My childhood was awesome, and so was the Goonies. Lighten up, Francis.
I saw this in Dublin, Ireland a few weeks back; really good. Quite twee and English like the Full Monty, Billy Elliot and such but has it's moments. The imagination of the intercut animation,
the stoopid stunts and the 80's detail really make it, even if Jennings induldges himself with nostalgia a little too much. Will Poulter who plays Lee Carter really is a find and will hopefully go on to Jamie Bell type success.
I think Will Poulter was also in "Boy A" which was screened on Channel 4 in the UK a while back. That was about childhood too, although not it is fair to say from the same POV as Son of Rambow. Apparantly the Weinsteins are releasing it in cinemas this Summer.
living in NZ now so will see it on the big screen.. um, never, but the one line 'filem I'm making for Screentest' took me right back to being a kid and wanting to make a movie that would be show on Screentest. brilliant

Son of Rambow was great–probably my favorite movie from Fantastic Fest last year. I can't wait until more people get a chance to see it and discuss it.
Son Of Rambow is playing in Minneapolis as part of the Minneapolis / St Paul International Film Fest on Saturday, April 19th. Garth Jennings will be there for a Q&A. I can't wait to see this film.
Saw this at TIFF last year. I can't recommend it enough – just a really great little flick with lots of heart and good intentions. Quite like director Garth Jennings, who was hilarious at the talkbacks after the screening.
