Wild Wild West looked like trouble. Hancock looks like anything but.
There’s been less-than-enthusiastic advance word on Will Smith’s big July 4th offering for summer ’08, but the trailer that premiered during American Idol last night (and currently embedded by io9) is pretty damn sensational. Whereas the teaser was front-to-back action comedy, this mayhem-laden spot gives us a taste of the seriousness that allegedly dominates most of the film’s second-half. It’s impossible to determine whether the tones mesh from a two-minute trailer, but, aside from some unfinished f/x (par for the course at this stage of post-production), I have zero complaints. I want to see Hancock now.
Hopefully, Berg conquers the tone issues, and keeps his winning streak going. We’ll find out July 2nd.

I hope they show his abs in this one.
I'm right there with you, Jeremy.
If the tone of the second 1/2 of this movie is as serious as everyone is saying I can't imagine how that wouldn't clash. From the first preview this movie makes itself to be a superhero comedy a la My SuperExGirlfriend, lots of slapstick. Then we're supposed to buy it being a heavy movie? Don't think so. I would sooner go see Wanted this summer than this drivel.
Yeah, the tone of the second half lost me. I'm not aware of the plot there, plot there, but from the looks of it, it felt like a very tired superhero retread.
The first half, on the other hand, was phenomenal. Either way, Berg's track record is aces with me, so faith in this project holds.
This movie looks fucking great (fun). As far as Super hero movies, this one looks like it'll be the 2nd best this summer after Iron Man. Will Smith's movies aren't always watchable, but he pretty much is.
"You shot my bottle of booze? Oh, HAIL no." This looks great. Big Willie's got the acting chops – I hope this is a big hit for him.
I dont know maybe I would also want to see WANTED for than this. It's a shame I can only see one film per summer. Actually I can only see one film per year, if that. I've only been able to see 4 films this decade. I don't know why I torture myself by going on film sites. It'll be a hard decision, because WANTED and HANCOCK look so similar.
This is actually the first trailer of the many upcoming summer superhero films that actually attempts to convey the story of the film (unlike Hulk, Iron Man, Dark Knight). For all I know, the other films only exist as bits and pieces of money shot footage with no dialogue.
Does that picture they are using in all of the promo stuff annoy anyone else? What kind of expression is that supposed to be exactly?
Will Smith is super likable. Here's hoping he eventually finds a great movie (And retires the phrase"Hail Naww") .
HEY!!! WHERE THE FUCK IS THE "YOU GOT IT ALL WRONG" FOR THURSDAY!!!! IVE WASTED PRECIOUS EMPLOYERS DOLLARS SPENDING EVERY SECOND CHECKING BACK!!!!
This will crush Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk in the box office. I love Robert Downey and Ed Norton, but selling them to a big summer audience is pushing it. Like it or not, Hancock will still gross upwards of $300 million I'm sure.
1. I hate that expression as well
2. So sick of the 'Aw hell no' jokes. It's old, the horse is dead and flogged to the point of disintegration. You cant add anything to joke, so please give it up.
I've seen an early cut of this film. Jesus Christ the last half of this film does indeed Peter out. Yeah, I said it.
****COMPLETE SPOILERS TO FOLLOW****
Bateman's wife (Theron) and Hancock are… immortals. The last two of their kind… a star-crossed pair who must remain separated lest they die by giving into their love for each other. Their race/kind were the basis for gods in ancient cultures, etc. etc.
The first half of the film is solid for the most part, besides a few over the top gags including a head up an actual ass… and both victims survive.
The film's strengths are in that at first it doesn't seem as though Hancock's history will be revealed… which is awesome. It's about a drunken half-failure who tries to rebuild his name but genuinely so (including a voluntary prison stay to rehab his PR). So much promise.
The movie is fucked into a cocked hat when the Theron character's true self is revealed, and the story becomes farily one note… with an almost shoe-horned secondary villain who decides suddenly to escape prison with a handful of Hancock's other "arrests".
It's worth seeing, if only to imagine the movie that could have been. The rough cut was screend in late Feb/early March… so there could be some hope for drastic edits, but I doubt it.
SPOILERS I GUESS:
Yeah, can you guy guys explain to me why people are so bummed out that Hancock and Theron are actually Gods?
Because they're not "superheroes"? Do you guys have even heard of Thor and Wonder Woman?
