/Film has found, via a reader report based on a BBC broadcast, that actor Matt Lucas has been cast in Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland as Tweedledee and Tweedledum. For anyone not in the UK, the most visible Lucas role has probably been his Shaun of the Dead walk-on, pictured above, where he played Cousin Tom, the Nick Frost analogue. But Lucas should be better known for his role co-creating, writing and starring as part of the Little Britain sketch comedy team, which has hit both BBC America and HBO On Demand.
None of which gives any insight into what Burton actually wants to do with the characters. Based on this photo, there’s certainly the fact that Lucas could easily be made over to look the part(s), but after that we don’t know much at all about what to expect.

He actually played Mr. Toad in the latest version of Wind In The Willows that was shown on PBS.
wasn't this news on this site last week?
Yeah, this is old news.
old news or not, i think it's great news. matt lucas is the right kind of comedian for this film – dark, strange, wildly child-like. would love to see his Little Britain partner Matt Walliams get a small role as well, maybe the drunken door mouse to Depp's Mad Hatter?
I guess Burton is a fan of British comedy. Kevin Eldon and Mark Heap of Big Train had a cameo in Charlie And The Chocolate Factory…
