Well, this sucks for Gerard Butler. AICN has corroborated word (from the man himself) that Frank Darabont has quit the picture Law Abiding Citizen. (Which stars Butler and is produced by his shingle.) Aside from the fact that it wasn’t a pretty situation, that’s all we’ve got.
Kinda puts the story from earlier this week into perspective, though. If you recall, that was about Jamie Foxx having joined the cast, but it was also where the description of the film’s story had changed significantly from what went before. The director has apparently been off the picture for over a week. Hate to see him go, because while I like Butler, Darabont was the most interesting part of this equation. I’ll be curious to hear over the coming weeks how the film evolves and how the story changes fit into Darabont’s departure.

So.. what is Darabont doing next..?
Probably something involving integrity and intelligence. As always.
There is probably nothing unusual about this kind of thing happening. But the quality of breaking news like this, along with Darabont's history with Lucas, makes it seem like he might be difficult to work with. Which probably isn't especially so.
Yeah, I'm sure the problems with Lucas are probably his fault. Lucas' streak is unblemished.
Honestly, I take this news with a sigh of relief. While The Mist was not the tour-de-force I was hoping for, I'd like to think Darabont has more in him than the very pedestrian plot of "Law Abiding Citizen."
