Considering the internet reaction to the simplest advertising for Wall*E, I fully expect people to openly weep at this poster for Up, Pixar’s next effort. The movie is about an old man who floats his house away, with a kid along for the ride. It’s apparently quite Miyazaki-ian.
The poster itself is really nice, quite minimal and lovely. My eyes, though, remain very dry.

Considering how every minimalist poster that comes along seems to be declared an amazing work of art around here, I expected more superlatives in this article…
This movie sounds like a pedophile fantasy. Old man alone with a kid in a floating house? Along for the ride? Poster with bright balloons? Go to hell, disney!!
Pixar hype is the worst, yes I loved the incredibles…but Cars and Ratamovie both bored the crap out of my kids. Because of Pixars penchant for making too long movies for kids, I stayed away from Wall-E and I and my boys have zero interest in this either.
If they wanted to make it TRULY Miyazaki-ian, the old man would actually be a 12 year-old girl, the house a mechanical contraption that can change shape, and the balloons cute little spirit creatures that can fly by inhaling deeply. Oh, and it would make absolutely no sense whatsoever but the white Western bourgeois would cream their pants in boutique coffee shops all over at the very mention of it.
