When Marvel Studios announced they were building all their individual franchises towards an Avengers film, we assumed they had a plan for getting all the actors on board for the crossover. But I’ve also suspected that Marvel has been playing a little fast and loose, going for the big picture before they nailed everything down. And in my mind the biggest question mark was Robert Downey Jr – would he really be playing Tony Stark in an Avengers movie?
He will be. According to a Marvel Studios press release: As part of his four picture deal with Marvel Studios, Robert Downey Jr. is appearing as Tony Stark in THE AVENGERS motion picture, as well as reprising his starring role as the larger-than-life leading character in IRON MAN 2. Jon Favreau will return to direct the sequel to the blockbuster IRON MAN, which to date has grossed over $578 million worldwide, as well as executive produce THE AVENGERS.
But wait! There’s more! The press release confirms that Don Cheadle will be taking over from Terrence Howard as Rhodey in Iron Man 2, but also that he’ll be appearing in The Avengers! I don’t know if this means that Rhodey has a cameo or if War Machine is in the group or what, but Cheadle will be there.
I assume that Cheadle’s deal, which locks him into The Avengers, is going to be the deal for everybody who signs on to a Marvel Studios film at this point.
And how cool is it that we can expect four turns from Robert Downey Jr as the Armored Avenger? There’s a lot of talk back and forth about how Marvel is conducting its business behind the scenes, but it looks like they have it all covered onscreen.

Norton's take of Bruce Banner as this really nice, innocent, afflicted guy was what made Incredible Hulk incredibly bland. The Banner from The Ultimates was someone who was in conflict about the Hulk – he thought it was a failure, because he lost his intellect, but he secretly liked the idea that he could turn into the strongest one there is at any moment. Cast Steve Buscemi as a Bruce Banner who isn't applying for sainthood and you have yourself a nifty villian. "HULK WANT FREDDIE PRINCE JR.!!!!!" (That's a reference to the comic, not a casting idea.)
I think the end bit of Hulk with Norton intentionally turning into Hulk and smiling at the camera would help lead to the set up of Banner deciding that being the Hulk is a good thing, which could lead to a more Ultimates style Banner

I am just guessing, but It seems that both Downey and Cheadle and whoever plays the Hulk might just have small parts as actual actors. It just seems to me that once they get to the point where all these characters are on screen together it will pretty much be a lot of CGI and voice acting. I will not be too shocked if they hire relative unknowns to play the Thor and Captain America since it doesnt seem that these characters will involve a lot of CGI and they wont have to deal with these guys not wanting to commit to several comic book movies. I am just kind of spitballing here, but it kind of makes sense to me.
Fuck Ultimates Banner. Marvel U Banner is how it should be like in Incredible Hulk. Look between, a guy who is a monster because he saved a life is better than Millar's version.
Still not buying Don Cheadle, Terrance Howard fitted so well even if he did nothing in the first movie. Ah well.. I'm just happy there is more more RDJ…

I like Ed Norton. I think he's a fantastic actor. But if getting him to do The Avengers means him bitching and moaning about the final cut of the film again, then please find someone else. Seriously- I watched those deleted scenes on the Hulk disc, and ALL of the ones with him in it are total actor jackoff scenes. Just like those scenes he put back in to American History X. Dude, sometimes it ain't all about you.
I still dont get it, why replace Terrence Howard after one film anyway?
