Now that’s a bad poster. It’s as if the marketing team at Lionsgate couldn’t decide what to feature in the final poster for The Spirit, so they threw everything in. The top part is painfully cluttered and busy while the bottom part is a boring yet Escheresque mess. Everything about this reads disaster.

The Marketing has just seemed to be off since day one.
Yeesh.
I liked the very first Milleresque posters with the red tie against black. Too bad they didn't just build on that. This is a movie I think people would actually be interested in seeing if they could connect it to being a comic book.
The trailer I saw before Quantum of Solace was so staggeringly awful it's retroactively making me hate Sin City too.
Oh my…
This movie has looked freaking terrible from the very begining and this poster clinches my feelings…unless the reviews are amazing, I'll be waiting for the video.
I kinda have the feeling that you people are spewing hate for this poster because you have already all decided to hate the film.
This poster is very interesting, I rather like incorporating the character posters in the background on billboards and such. Its a hell of a lot better then floating heads, and the color scheme is heading away from Sin City 1.5 which this film was never meant to be.
I don't think this film will be as good as Sin City but I also don't see the instant train wreck that every one predetermined the moment the Spirit was seen in a black suit. I would say this film will surprise you guys but Devin has probably already written his scathing review and the commenters will simply agree or disagree because so few of you actually have any knowledge of Eisner's Spirit.
I found a box of sunglasses in a dumpster and when I look at this poster with them on it says some crazy shit like "Sleep, "Obey", and "Gabriel Macht deserves an Oscar". Fuck this, I am getting a headache.
But this isn't Eisner's Spirit, this is Miller's Spirit.
This is where I don't even bother pointing out what I think is bad about this movie anymore. Because it's just gonna be bad and why even pay attention anymore.
So, a bunch of numbnuts marketing douches don't know how to sell an unusual film, so you hate the film for not being standard formula marketing-friendly fare? Good going fuckheads. Enjoy High School Musical 4, 5 and 6.
Of COURSE they're assembling the Enterprise in Iowa. After all, 'If they build it, he will come'. But seriously, if you sift through all of the interminable length of Star Trek V, there are a least 20 minutes of good scenes (the Lawrence of Arabia-like pre-credit sequence and McCoy's Sybok-inflenced meltdown over his father's death immediately come to mind) that completely bely the shit-fest that Final Frontier truly was. Taking that into account, if Abrams and Co. can't pull together a third of an hour of footage that, in a positive way, suggests a tone that is anything more than a generic sci-fi/fantasy flick there may be cause for concern. To this viewer's point of view, I still think Nicolas Meyer is the only person who had a handle on the essence of Trek – but with that being said, this is probably the most interested I've been in a Star Trek film since First Contact. I just hope the new creative team doesn't drop the ball.
I don't know how the above comment got on this page – talk about drifting off-topic. If admin could remove, I'd appreciate it. And while we're at it, yes, that posted is a mess.
I'm with Wally. I like the poster. Is it perfect? no, there are some aesthetic choices i would do with out, But it is getting away from SinCity, wich is a must.
In fact a commend the designers for taking a chance. There was an article on here about about posters all looking the same. Here is one that looks unqiue and it gets lambasted.
Aside, from the first simple black and red poster, this is so far my favorite for the movie.
holy shit that's bad!
those leading lines are a photoshop disaster
This movie has looked like shit from day one. Nothing about it looks interesting at all. It's Sin City redux. That's all he knows how to do in film.
