It’s not often in this job that I’m truly surprised by a trailer, but the one for the Steve Carrell/Tina Fey comedy Date Night really floored me. I didn’t know this was The In-Laws meets Parenthood, for one thing.
What didn’t surprise me is how deadly unfunny this Shawn Levy movie looks. I don’t understand why Fey and Carrell would make a movie with a guy this middle of the road, and I don’t understand what they possibly thought was going to come of it. From the looks of this trailer: nothing good.
One thing I did like: James Franco’s very brief appearance at the end. He has killer line delivery. Everything else in this trailer gave me agita.

I don't know. It looks like it could be a bit of fun to me.
I like Carell and Fey, so I hope this turns out to be Levy's first good movie.
Reminds me of Adventures in Babysitting. If this had come out in 1986 all the geeks would be saying it's a classic.
Looks like After Hours or Into the Night with a few extra chromosomes.
