Watching the trailer for Remember Me, an abject looking new film starring Robert Pattinson, Emilie de Ravin, Pierce Brosnan and Chris Cooper, I tried to figure out what R Pattz was going for in his performance. My guess is he’s doing James Dean as channeled through James Franco, with a touch of emo Young DeNiro thrown in (that bit where he says “That’s all there is? It’s not enough” just reminds me of skinny 70s DeNiro). He’s wretched at it. He also looks funny.
Maybe there’s something in Remember Me that this trailer isn’t getting across – the cast is pretty decent and director Allen Coulter made the quite good Hollywoodland. I’ll keep hoping. Even if everything about this trailer – including the music and Emilie de Ravin’s horrible quirk of ordering dessert before dinner – tells me my hope is misplaced.

Hmm. I'm neither a fan or hater of Pattinson, never saw Twilight and have no recollection of him in Harry Potter (if he wasn't in Prisoner of Azkaban, then he pretty much doesn't exist in my version or the Harry Potter universe). I do enjoy the way people generally take the piss out of the Twilight series, which appears to be very deserving of some negative attention, but I have no animosity toward the actors. Also, I'm not generally one to write in to "call" someone on their hate-driven targeting of specific individuals, but I don't know where this comes from, other than some misguided vendetta.
Sure, this movie looks fabulously unremarkable, and the character Pattinson is playing is no convention-breaker or anything, but I don't see the "shittiness" here at all. He seems competent enough. I guess I can sort of see the James Dean thing you're talking about, but I don't think it's slavish imitation or cheap mugging, so much as a particular acting style that has been prevalent among tousle-haired young hunk actors for generations now. And there are far worse culprits, if you want to play that card.
I just found this article particularly petty and mean-spirited, and — most of all — pointless.
Not usually my reaction to Devin's output. Seems like more of a Nick article to me.
I got a DiNero via DiCaprio vibe… I guess he's picking acting roles based on some kind of playbook, like "how to get people to take me seriously"
My favorite shot in the trailer is the intent bike riding near the end.

Pattison is the oddest looking heartthrob ever. He doesn't have the dead doll eyes of Zac Efron, but he has the androgyny, with some added unhealthiness thrown in. Like he has lyme disease or something.

I like how there's nothing shitty at all about the performances in this trailer. And I guess other people have posted that already. Keep straining for that daily article content, fat internet critic!
Yeah, Pattinson did not seem bad or "shitty" at all in the trailer. It's not going to get him an Oscar, but it isn't Tobey Maguire in the Brothers trailer bad.
Gotta agree with #1. What gives here Devin? He seemed fine in this trailer. You may have an issue you need to deal with. I'm not a fan of hate just for the fun of it. Kinda calls into question anything you have said or will say about this guy. I've seen much worse and so have you. Give it a rest. Guess I'm not surprised though I mean you did give 9 Songs 4/10 and New Moon 2/10 and anything is better than 9 Songs

It should be clear by now that a good proportion of Devin's work is mindless provocation, with the sole aim of creating enough angry clicks to keep this moribund site limping through to 2010. Why else do you think the comments returned just before a new Twilight movie? These Talkbacks are Chud's emergency cash tap.

No but seriously, if there's anybody in the trailer I'm worried about, it's Pierce Brosnan playing an American. Looks pretty harmless overall though.
Is it just me or does the first half of this trailer just play out like a contemporary re-tread of Catcher in the Rye? Disaffected, disassociated male youth with extreme social awkwardness and a strong attachment to a much younger sister. Dissolution with the parents. Why even update it? How derivative it seems.
Then, we get a hackneyed version of yet another manic pixie dream girl romantic storyline.
I feel like Twilight has ruined Robert Pattison's potential as an actor. The natural charisma and charm he showed in his few scenes as Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire really lent his character's death a good deal of weight. Now he seems doomed to play some prettyboy social rebel. Blah blah blah. What a waste. Well…at least he's making a shitton of money for someone his age. I wish I was.
Agree with #1. I cannot see the point of this post. The movie, as well as Pattinson's acting looks decent. Okay, he might ruined alot of chances to make people get him as a serious actor with all this Twilight buzz, but there is no shitty performance here. There's someone who wants to prove himself as an actor, as well, and not a person for tweens to swoon over. I guess we should give this guy a chance to show us what he's got, 'cause as #13 said, there was something in HP and it might be still there.
