Movieline is reporting that John Malkovich is in negotiations to join Spider-Man 4 as the comic book hero’s long-time villain, the Vulture.
But wait, that’s not all! They say their inside source also says that they’re looking to grab Anne Hathaway for the film as well, for a new character called Felicia Hardy. That’s right- new character. Apparently this Felicia won’t be turning into Black Cat, instead becoming a new villain called the Vulturess.
Those of you looking for Dylan Baker to finally get his chance to shine as The Lizard (he’s played Curt Conner for the last two films, after all) might have to keep waiting, because the source says that Sony doesn’t want to sign off “on such an odd-looking enemy”, instead preferring one where you can see its face. Because it obviously makes more sense to try and introduce TWO NEW BAD GUYS (!!) instead of making poor Peter deal with a close acquaintance of his that goes mad. Makes even more sense than sticking Venom in the last film!
Of course, take this all with a grain of salt as it’s all rumor, but while the idea of Malkovich as Vulture sure is a great one, let’s hope they don’t just try to throw as many new baddies at Spidey as they can this time.

Goddamnit, I know this is just a rumor, but it seems like the kind of thing that could happen pretty easily after Spidey 3.
Hathaway would make an excellent Black Cat, why fuck with a formula that works?
I would like to see them stop taking Spider-Man's mask off in every movie. Watching him get teary and all emo is one of the many things that annoy me about the films. They should CGI his, and the vilian's, masks/faces so that they convey emotion like in the comics. So stupid that they conveniently end up on vacant rooftops/construction sites where Peter can take off his mask and blather his angst all over everyone. Leave his mask on!!! If you can't do it with it on, then why bother.
Being a director must suck sometimes. You make Sony a ridiculous amount of money on 3 of the biggest films of all-time, and you still don't get freedom from executive interference bullshit. Lizard FTW.
God Damn… putting Anne Hathaway in that cat suit would be one of the greatest decisions Fox has ever made. And they've already screwed it up…
Goddammit! Sony strikes again with their terrible decisions regarding this franchise. I know Raimi wanted to make this to make up for part 3, but he should probably walk away if the studio is intervening so severely again.
STOP TAKING OFF SPIDEY'S MASK! And good GOD not even the Lee/Ditko Peter Parker was as much of a loser as the Raimi version.
I said it before and I'll say it again…LARRY DAVID needs to play the Vulture!!!
unknown user. It's not Fox it's Sony. Let's at least direct our unfounded "damn the studio!" rhetoric to the right place.
Vulturess! That had better be a fucking joke.
Wasn't Rami supposed to have more control on Spidey 4?? Sigh.
I agree with the mask-on comments… and dammit, the Lizard NEEDS TO HAPPEN. Drop the Vulture (although Malkovich is a good idea).
All this early casting nonsense sounds like fancasting. Hoping it's a load of bollux.
Use the Lizard, Sony. Hell, throw Ian McShane in there, too, as Kraven the Hunter. That'd put my ass in the seats.
there was an alternate universe daughter – of – alternative vulture called raptor
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raptor_(comics)
It's a shitty name but better than Vulturess.
Larry David as The Vulture = Bad Idea. Great actor, WRONG role. Just because he's bald and birdlike doesn't mean he's right. Remember when everyone was saying David Caruso should play Rorschach? Just because he's a grizzled redhead? THAT would have been a disaster.
Not impressed at all! Although I like the idea of The Vulture, I think the casting is playing it too safe (think Kevin Spacey as Lex Luthor). Nice in theory, but you know EXACTLY how Malkovich is going to play it. The reason why Health Ledger was an inspired choice as The Joker, was because nobody knew what that would look like. Go different. Be original. Just because Malkovich is bald and has played many a villain shouldn't give him the job. Viggo Mortensen? Daniel Day Lewis?
Horrible idea. The thing I've enjoyed most about the Spiderman films is that they got away from the cheesy, over-the-top portrayals that plagued comic movies for years. Anyone who's watched Malkovich this decade has clearly seen that cheese is 95% of what he's been bringing to film. If it was Malkovich from a decade ago, that would be one thing. As it stands I think he would bring it down. Not to mention that I always thought the Vulture was one of the stupider villains.
Harry Dean Stanton for Vulture!
Instead of John Malkovich get someone more unassumingly villainous like Peter Sarsgaard. A very nice looking guy who can be a brutal villain.
Makes a bit of sense, given the rumors that Raimi wanted to use Vulture instead of Venom in 3.
I'm voting for Ian Holm.
What the f… people? It's "Connors" — effin 'o' in there. Connors. Why do people keep saying Conner or Conners instead of Connor or Connors?!?! Freaking retarded — go back to school if you have to
Yeu'ro right. Cloarly the mest impertant peint in this discussien is the spolling ef tho imaginary porsen's namo.
"Such an odd-looking enemy?" Sorry to sound obscene, but fuck the suits. FUCK them. We've had THREE GODDAMN MOVIES building up to the Lizard, and it`s time to deliver.
I don't understand the rabid demands for the Lizard. He's basically an angry werewolf. Fine for a couple issues of the comic, but you can't base an entire film on a villain that turns into a savage animal. I could understand using the character as a secondary villian, but there's not enough depth there to drive an entire movie. Also, this early casting news is all fan speculation bullshit anyway.
I think John Malkovich would be better in some jewel-thief movie…
Yeah.. let's completely CG the movie and never show Peter Parker. Let's just skip to every action scene and have no human interaction what so-ever. You guys morons! They have to humanize the movie so people relate. What made Spiderman 2 great the character development. And what made Spiderman 3 terrible, awful dialogue and nonsensical plot.
For they have certainly gone missing if this rumour is true. I mean, Vulturess? WHAT. THE. FUCK. Anne Hathaway has Black Cat is genius. Not to mention that the Nolan Batman series still hasn't cashed in Catwoman, might as well strike first Marvel. Dammt, Sony and Raimi better act fast.
I've watched spiderman 3 recently after wiping my ass with it and hoping to forget about it for the rest of my life, and… I kinda like it. It's a terrible movie, the kind of movie that gives critics a reason to exist, but there's an honesty to how terrible it is… Somewhere along the way Raimi said "fuck it" I'll just toss the script out the window and make it up as I go. I like that about it. But please don't do it again.
Dammit! Ben kingsley as Vulture! Accept no substitutes! Add a dose of Bruce C as Mysterio and you have a spankin' good Spider-movie!
Vultress?? VULTRESS??!! Fuck this idea right in the ass. Including Felicia Hardy and no Black Cat is totally terrible.
another pathetic villian for a pathetic superhero to pathetically fight.. mail this one in..
