…because that would rule. Nevertheless, Charles Martin Smith (Air Bud) and Alcon Entertainment are readying a heartwarming tale about a boy and his aquatic mammal. Project’s inspired by the true story of of a young boy who befriends
Winter, an injured dolphin who lost her tail in a crab trap, and
motivates everyone around him to help save the dolphin by creating a
prosthetic appendage to replace the dolphin’s missing tail.
Alcon is responsible for the currently-playing The Blind Side and has Denzel’s The Book of Eli upcoming. Meanwhile, Smith has spent his career splitting time in front of and behind the camera, having starred in Never Cry Wolf and most recently guest starring in Fringe and Leverage; as well as directing the aforementioned ballin’ pooch story and last year’s Stone of Destiny.
Pic could be the next Free Willy, but will need a much racier title than A Dolphin’s Tale. Perhaps Blow Hole?

Is that a young Dan Marino?
After what Marino did to that poor Ray Finkle guy he doesn't deserve a movie.
Wasn't there already a dolphin movie with Dan Marino? I think Jim Carrey was in it.
Oh God. I didn't realize Charles Martin Smith was a director until he showed up at the Q&A after Stone of Destiny. I didn't know he directed Air Bud until I read this article. Anyway, Never Cry Wolf is great.
Marino is cool and all… but he's no Affleck. I'll tell you that much.
Newsflash, the Affleck stuff isn't funny.
