There probably will be more Star Wars films. Despite the fact that he was supposed to be done with the Star Wars universe after the Prequels, George Lucas has been unable to leave well enough alone, and there’s a live action TV series in the works to go alongside the currently airing Clone Wars cartoon. But what will this movie be?
The question is raised once again, this time by musician Thomas Dolby – yes, the guy who sang ‘She Blinded Me With Science.’ On his blog he talks about hanging out with a Lucas guy. Here’s the pertinent quote:
My host is friend and former collaborator Paul Sebastien, who over the years has worked for Xbox, Playstation, and now LucasArts. Last night he was telling me a little about the forthcoming Star Wars-related TV show, movie and online games—very cool indeed.
There are a lot of things this could mean. It could mean, quite simply, that Sebastien spilled the beans to Dolby about a super secret return to the cinema for Star Wars. Possible, but highly unlikely. The folks who work at Lucasfilm and LucasArts don’t spill beans. Maybe Dolby is breaking a major confidence here, but that sentence doesn’t read like he’s telling tales out of school.
So Dolby could just be plain old wrong – there are no Star Wars movies in the pipeline. Or he could be confused: maybe Lucas is planning to kick start his live action show with a movie. Lucas took the first few episodes of Clone Wars and jammed them together into a film; it would be easy to do the same with the first two or three episodes of a live action show. But then again, maybe there’s no theatrical component at all and Lucas just wants to start his new show with a two hour TV movie – basically a double sized episode.
This raises an interesting semantic question, though: do you count the Clone Wars movie as a Star Wars movie? Are there seven Star Wars films in your personal canon, or just the six? I bet more people would count a big screen version of the live action show as a real movie than the CG Clone Wars.
At any rate, it’s going to happen. There will be a new Star Wars movie, a real one. Maybe even one that grows out of the end of the TV series. But I think we’re some time from that happening.

I count three Star Wars films. Anyone who counts those ridiculous Prequels as anything more then the cinematic rantings of a megalomaniac waaaaaaaay past his prime isnt respecting the idea of Star Wars. Especially considering he directly contradicts himself with Padme's death in ROTS and the convo Luke and Leia have in the Ewok village about their mother (no no ass clown she was NOT referring to her adopted mother and you fucking know it) I feel pretty comfy just calling the prequels the wrong story. And anyone who counts Clone Wars is either under 13 years old or an easily amused moron.

Wow that david lynch video was like all build up and no punchline. Like at all. " I didn't want to direct star wars, I met with Lucas anyway, I had a headache, and then I decided not to direct Star Wars."
Closest to anything interesting was him saying that Lucas doesn't like directing. Imagine if he had that restraint during the prequels.

Bravo to the first post. I'm truly sad to say that I too will erase the prequels from my memory of star wars, having dedicated so much of my childhood to them. Sadly some kid will love them and defend them to his dying day as I would defend batman forever which was pretty damn awesome to me back in 4th grade.
Shut up.. there are 6 films. 2 great ones, 2 good ones, and 2 meh ones. So funny listening to these grown ass men ripping on the prequels, because they weren't like the orginals as far as their impact on them. What the fuck did you expect, most of us were kids when we saw the first trilogy, and it drove our imaginations into overdrive. Talk to any little kid about the prequels, they love them. Stop with the Star Wars rips, getting old.
But then again, with Lucas out of the picture now, seems like Cameron has been the new target of fanboy hate on the web. Shit, you guys act like over protective parents who went from hating Marylin Manson, to hating Eminem…. you ALWAYS need someone to hate on…

I could have done without episodes I and II, but I really enjoyed episode III, even more so after watching the special features on the DVD. It came so close to being a travesty it’s not funny; some of the last minute changes, near the end, really made the movie.
Still, to be honest, episode one was the only prequel that captured the whimsy of the original film (episode IV).

I watch star wars now and can barely sit throught it all besides the ridiculously brilliant esb and excellently paced rotj duel. But every one of us grown ass men has a right to complain when a film maker obviously half asses a multi million dollar movie, dammit. Some ignorant ass 12 year old LOVES Indy IV, I'm sure, doesn't make it anywhere near as good as raiders or doom. Damn internet getting me all angry…

The prequels are awful. Plain and simple. There are moments — like four little moments in the three films combined — that feel ALMOST like Star Wars. Having watched them again recently, I was shocked that Phantom Menace held up the best (and that's not saying much at all). Partially because it was shot on film, and from a strictly visual standpoint, it just looked better. Also, physical models were used for explosions and some spaceship FX shots. AOTC and ROTS look TERRIBLE. The digital photography and overwhelming CG effects make everything look plastic and cartoony. The actors look bored (as though they were standing in blue rooms 😉 and as a result the action felt flaccid and uninteresting. That's not even taking the stories into account, which were like bad g-rated fan fiction. Just my opinion — I truly wished they had been cool. They had every right to be cool. They SHOULD have been cool.
The big GL himself spilled the bean of a second animated series as well as the live action one. Disclosed in an interview with theforcecast.net's Jimmy Mac during an appearance in Chicago recently. That's right, a second Star Wars universe cartoon show of some kind. This is not a rumor and if you listen to the interview yourself you will hear it from his lips.
I don't know what's more absurd for me to think about – the time when I still thought Star Wars was a good film series or the time when I actually liked and respected Nunziata. They're both so long ago and forever gone.

And wasn't Han serving as a Lieutenant on a Stardestroyer before he became a smuggler? i think there's a awesome story which could be made in a cool spin off movie. I suggest Nathan Fillion to be cast as Han Solo.
